Apache Beat  -Last Chants (October 5)
Free Download “Your Powers Are Magic”

Apache Beat have been championed by Pitchfork, NME, NYLON and countless others for the past two years and now their debut is finally upon us. The band has been pummeling stages with everyone from Gossip to Crystal Castles to School of Seven Bells and hinting at what was to come on their full length. Last Chants, produced/mixed by Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans) and also mixed by John Agnello (The Kills, Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth), is a spellbinding collection of songs that are as beautiful as they are dangerous. Its relentless rhythms are off set by labyrinthine melodies to get lost in. The album features contributions from members of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Rapture, and Lightspeed Champion.

“Knives” opens the album with its addictive synth line before front woman Ilirjana’s powerhouse voice assaults you. The centerpiece of the album are underground classic single “Tropics”, a tale of heartbreak which first put the band on the map followed by second single “Your Powers Are Magic”. “Nightwaters” is Apache Beat at their most romantic with its gentle melody and tale of a love that wasn’t meant to be. The band bares their teeth on “Fear of Falling” with its escalating drama and aggression. Live favorite “Another Day” ends things with it’s constantly mutating melody and insurmountable walls of distorted guitars and synth drones.

Apache Beat are one of NYC’s most exciting and original bands. Their rhythms are unlike anyone else’s, their songs take risks others wouldn’t and they have the kind of front woman most bands dream about. Last Chants will infiltrate your dreams and you will be better for it.

The Drums

(September 14, 2010; Downtown Records)

Down By The Water” MP3 Available Now!

Co-Headlining North American Tour With Surfer Blood

“…all heart and hooks.” The New York Times

“…totally addictive.” – NYLON

“A band to fall in love with” NME

“one of the best indie pop debuts of the year.” – Rolling Stone

Riding a wave of international acclaim, The Drums are thrilled to share the new “Down By The Water” MP3.  A true departure from earlier singles the band slows the tempo showing their versatility with this new track.  Check out New York Magazine’s “Vulture” piece where the stream premiered today.  You can download the “Down By The Water” MP3 HERE

Stacked against the summer’s dance-inducing releases, “Down By The Water”  is a breath of fresh air.  Paring the production down to a slow bass line, light percussion, and a distant synthesizer, the most pronounced instrument is Jonny Pierce’s voice, which opens softly and elevates to a sharp croon. The minimalist production however, does not negate the intensity of the lyrics. “Down By The Water” is a love song. “Everybody’s gotta love someone, but I just want to love you dear… you’ve got to believe me when I say the words forever,”pleads Pierce.

The Drums have been wowing European audiences for the better part of the last year, and now they’re bringing their electrifying live show to North America on a co-headlining tour with Surfer Blood!  The band is currently in the midst of a massive worldwide tour and the North American dates are sure to be the most explosive yet! The album is out now digitally in the US and will be available in stores September 14th.

Superisk Biography

Superisk has been lurking on the Bristol underground music scene for a number of years, playing his unique 140bpm crossover sets to a range of unsuspecting crowds. He is a resident at the Sureskank Convention, a long established club night that has consistently supported the underground sounds of Grime and Dubstep in the city. Many people know Superisk from late night sessions at, the now sadly closed, Tube club, home to so many of Bristol’s specialist dance music events,

Spending formulative years immersed in MPCs and gritty breakbeats, London’s Grime evolution became an inspiration. Superisk began forging his warped sonic synthesis into his own musical visions.

Now, finally, the scene is set for his productions to see the light of day with his debut 12” due on the Punch Drunk label in Autumn 2010. Along with his solo productions, Superisk has been collaborating with Bristol based Hip Hop For Ravers, Central Spillz, recently completing their forthcoming debut album, ‘Space Travel’.

Mensah Biography

Visit Bristol and mention the name Mensah, the chances are that someone’s going to know the man you’re talking about. Having become involved in the Bristol music scene at an early age, there’s no surprise that he epitomizes the great things associated with the city’s music – positivity, progression and originality.

Growing up listening to his Mum’s dub and reggae collection, his first taste of UK underground music was going to the under-18 night ‘Jungle Book’ at the tender age of 11, witnessing the late and great Steve ‘Hyper’ D. It was the garage scene though that really kindled Mensah’s first love of dance music and Mensah still cites the productions of Wookie and the dj sets of Heartless Crew’s DJ Fonti as a major influence.

DJing himself at various nights in Bristol, the natural progression for Mensah was to start creating his own music. Aspiring to never make the same tune twice or wanting to be typecast into any one genre, Mensah pushes whatever sound he decides to take forward – a melting pot of dubstep, grime, and pure dancefloor energy.

Releases ‘Pulse 80’s’ and ‘Untitled Future Funk EP’ on Hench have established the Mensah name but this is just the beginning.

***Watch: Florrie Drumming Jam Session 1***

Meet Florrie: as traditional a musician and performer as can possibly be, but at the same time a completely new type of independent pop artist.

21 year old Florrie is a multi-talented British and box-fresh new artist ready to make her own indelible impression on 2010’s wonderfully varied musical landscape. A drummer, singer, songwriter and guitarist, Florrie is the former Xenomania house-band drummer, and has now fought her way out from behind the band to take centre stage with her own music.

July 19th sees Florrie make her release debut with “Call 911”, the lead single to be taken from the brand new Kitsuné X Ponystep compilation CD. “Call 911,” co-written with contemporary disco legend Fred Falke, sits perfectly on an ultra-cool album that fuses pop, electro, indie, disco and more, highlighting that Florrie’s music rests at the centre of an international roll-call of fantastic modern dance-pop. ‘Call 911’ also comes with mixes by Bart B More, Beataucue and His Majesty Andre.

From picking up her first pair of drumsticks at the age of seven, and first guitar at twelve, Florrie has already chalked up over 100 live shows as a drummer, as well as playing on some of the best pop records of recent years for the likes of Kylie, Girls Aloud and Pet Shop Boys. Currently unsigned, Florrie is giving away her music via her website http://florrie.com and her tracks have become a big favorite at Hype Machine.

Magnetic Man – I Need Air (video+preview remixes)

Posted in News, Promotions with tags , , , , , , on July 7, 2010 by dk

I Need Air’ sees the trio enlist Angela Hunte on vocals and they must hope her involvement will have the same impact as the Alicia Keys/Jay Z collab ‘New York State of Mind’ which Harte co wrote with the wailing ivory tinkler.

Skream, Benga and Artwork have spent the last few months holed up in a studio putting the final touches on the as yet un named album and Skream was in typically boisterous mood when divulging what to expect. “With all three of us doing it it’s going to get ultra-no-holds barred” says Skream. “This is Magnetic Man. It’s no longer three people: it’s a whole.”

Earlier this month, Skream gave away ‘Mad’ a free taster of what to expect from the Magnetic Man project via his soundcloud page and the 5000 odd downloads are a precient indication of the anticipation building around this project.(JUNO)

SKREAM + BENGA + ARTWORK = MAGNETIC MAN. Coming July 25th on download and vinyl, with remixes from Redlight and Digital Soundboy.
