Bobmo debut album “New dawn ” out June 30th+Teaser

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 27, 2014 by dk

BOBMOHugues Rey aka BOBMO has been making dance music for almost ten years. Hailing from Bordeaux, he started as one of the signature artists of the late Institubes label. He was originally known for his raw producing style – influenced by ghettohouse as much as by vintage French touch – and his pleasantly goofy, erratic manners. But time has passed since the mid 2000s and the then post-teenage, hyperactive kid, has matured and widened his perspective both as a musician and a DJ.

During the past three or four years, Bobmo has been obsessed by a deeper, more contemplative sound and injected some mystique in his work. In 2011, he released The Cliff EP on Marble, the label he launched with Para and Surkin after the demise of Institubes. That was a first try at vertical, weird techno, that made him realize he could do more of this stuff. Then followed last year’s Sonic Soul EP, and now his very first long player, New Dawn.

This is a patiently fine-tuned album, blending club tracks with midtempo or almost beatless tunes, ranging from bad vibed acid techno to synthetic landscapes drenched with an unmissable early morning vibe. This is pretty simple, honest music : no FX galore, nothing too upfront beat-wise. Feeling is the key and it doesn’t really need anything else to be good. This record could actually have been released ten or twenty years ago as much as in ten or twenty years from now. Serene, powerful and febrile at the same time, it conjures an archaic rave sensation, coming from an era when DJs could play peak-time bangers alongside peaceful, lovey-dovey stuff. It has this early morning euphoria made famous by the likes of Larry Heard or 808 State (as on the intro and outro, both titled Breaking Waves) ), but it also displays a sheer freedom when it comes to the groove, shifting from tough steely mechanics (It is Happening Again, Mind Control feat. Surkin, Standing High feat. Para One) to fleshy, warmer material (Time Warp, or the romantic I Want You). This is still house, but this is really off-format house, made by some guy who might have heard way too much formatted house and decided he should make the music he loves in his very own singular way. Is it auteur-rave, leftfield house or deepsea techno? It shouldn’t really matter. New Dawn just shows how the funny careless kid Bobmo used to be has evolved into a major figure of the history of lush dance music.

Surkin to release debut artist album “USA” – a fantasy eighties soundscape(Preview)

Surkin to release debut artist album “USA” – a fantasy eighties soundscape

Marble is proud to announce the November 7th release of Surkin’s debut artist album, “USA.”

Originally designed to be out on Institubes, Marble was the logical choice to release “USA” after the demise of the influential French label. It features 16 tracks, with guest vocals by Detroit’s Ann Saunderson (Inner City) and Chicago’s Kevin Irving (the voice of house blueprint “Move Your Body” by Marshall Jefferson); and two collaborations with friend and label mate Bobmo, whom with Surkin works as High Powered Boys.

It’s a joyous, juvenile, body-moving record, based on the idea of a radio station called Fireworks FM, set up in Silver Springs. The whole vibe exhales a fantasized eighties soundscape, infused with dance subgenres from that era but dramatically edited by Surkin’s own imaginary memories.

Club tracks galore, but also expect more melodic emotional mid-tempo cuts, but definitely not in a filler way. Mastery all over the place yet infused with a tremendous feeling of exuberance and freedom. Needless to say it’s an instant classic.

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on March 24, 2011 by dk

Para One and friends release a megamix to launch new label Marble preluding his exclusive UK performance at London’s Scala on 9th April

In the lead up to his exclusive London performance for The Playground on the 9th April at Scala, a megamix full of Para One tracks from new label Marble has been released. The label has been launched in response to the closing of legendary French electro imprint, Institubes, and is co-founded by coherts Bobmo and Surkin.

The megamix which highlights tracks soon to come from the label has already amassed an enormous amount of attention within the 1st week with tens of thousand of plays and hundreds of comments already proving their unique brand of peak-time electro music is in demand more than ever.

Manager of Para One, Olivier Linglet, states:

‘Even though the demise of Institubes may come as a shock to the electronic music world, when Para decided to team up with the others to form Marble there was no doubt in my mind and theirs that this is going to be a huge success. It will continue to carry the French electronic sound that is already gaining worldwide attention. The megamix reflects this as will Para’s live show in London.’

tracks coming out soon on Marble : Marble Players, Surkin, Para One, Bobmo, Teki latex, Myd, Das glow, Canblaster.
