Sepalcure – Make You EP (HF039)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 15, 2013 by E.N.

sepalcure make you
After releasing two EPs and utilising the broader canvas of their universally acclaimed debut album (‘Sepalcure’) to develop their collaborative project, the adroit drum-programming and production duo of Sepalcure (Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille/ Praveen & Benoit)) return after a year-long absence with ‘Make You,’ scheduled for release in April on their long-term home of Hotflush Recordings.

Since debuting on the label, Stewart and Sharma have collaborated with the shared understanding that there are no rules to what they can produce. This refusal to be inhibited by any steadfast structures, or expectations set down by shifting scenes and surrounding culture, has allowed their sound to become its own guide, capable of developing in a wholly natural way.

With heartbreaking melodies, skittering footwork percussion, chopped guitar cuts and infectious tremelo vocals, ‘Make You’ is the direct result of this liberated outlook in which disparate elements are given the space to collide head-on in the formation of something completely fresh.

Tracklist:
1. Make You
2. He Said No
3. The Water’s Fine
4. Rumours
5. DMD

Shelter Point – Forever For Now (HF035)(preview)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on September 19, 2012 by E.N.

Up next on Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings is the stunning debut EP Forever For Now from 20 year-old duo Shelter Point. Through the use of field recordings, upright pianos, their own chopped and screwed vocals and a varied palette of synths, the pair have created a lush and elegant four track love letter that’s bound to make their contemporaries stand up and take note.

‘Braille’ sets the scene, its wistful, haunting vocals delicately slinking along to emotive and complex analogue synths, only slightly changing course on the vibrating and discordant 80’s inspired ‘Hold On Me’. On the flip is the title track, a compelling and experimental piano ballad, rich with vinyl crackle and a bittersweet lyrical flow (‘forever burned your picture in my mind’) followed by the pop-inspired ‘Sleep Easy’, a sweetly composed bedroom soul production kitted out with filtered synths and dubbed out atmospherics.

A unique and memorable debut from a very bright new talent, Shelter Point are here to stay.

Release date: 22nd October 2012

Sepalcure – Eternally Yrs

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 27, 2012 by E.N.

Sepalcure follow up last year’s critically acclaimed LP on Hotflush Recordings with a new EP featuring remixes from Kevin McPhee and Trevino (a.k.a. Marcus Intalex), alongside one previously released album cut and one original track.

‘Eternally Yrs‘, originally featured on the LP, makes another appearance on side A, followed up by Trevino’s (Intalex’s moniker for his techno and house projects) upbeat and melodic remix of ‘Hold On’. On the flip, Toronto rising star McPhee turns the classic house sounds of ‘The One’ into a crackly, techno-driven subbass tune. Finally, the emotive ‘Don’t Cry’ hits hard with the trademark staccato bass and processed vocals that Seplacure have come to be known for.

Since the release of their self-titled full length, Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille) have brought their live act to SXSW, Winter Music Conference, Unsound and have played all across Europe and America.

Release date April 16th 2012

Sepalcure – Pencil Pimp

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 3, 2011 by E.N.

Sepalcure are poised to release their eponymous debut full length through Hotflush this November. In advance of the album a key track, “Pencil Pimp”, will be released as a single, backed with an exclusive track, “I’m Alright”.

The single reflects Sepalcure’s approach to the album, where Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille) utilize the longer format to develop their collaborative process and incorporate the diverse influences present in their solo work to their sonic mixture. Machinedrum’s much-heralded Room(s) LP and Sharma’s recent EPs on Hotflush and Rush Hour reflect the impact of the frenetic, paranoid rhythms of the modern Chicago underground on the wider electronic world and the return to vogue of another musical style that originated from that city: House. But both artists add a crucial sense of emotional sensibility and melodic sensuality that defines the Sepalcure sound.

Sepalcure debut Album,All About

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on September 6, 2011 by E.N.

As we announced here ,album from Sepalcure is on the way, check all about:tracklist, cover…

On the heels of the ‘Fleur’ EP and this summer’s ‘Love Pressure’ remix project, Sepalcure are poised to release their eponymous debut full length through Hotflush on 21 November.

The duo of Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille), utilize the broader canvas of the album format to develop their collaborative process and incorporate the diverse influences present in each artist’s solo work to their sonic mixture. Machinedrum’s much heralded ‘Rooms’ LP reflects the impact of the frenetic, paranoid rhythms of the modern Chicago underground on the wider electronic world, while Sharma’s Braille productions highlight his emotional sensibility and melodic sensuality.

‘Yuh Nuh See’ takes the bite out of juke’s trademark staccato bass and looping vocals, washing the tension away with lush melodies and dubbed out atmospherics, while ‘Eternally Yrs’ is a burbling update of the rave-house sound, with processed vocals rubbing up against woodblock beats and a relentlessly bouncing bassline. ‘The One’ and first single ‘Pencil Pimp’ are destined to light up dancefloors worldwide with their variations on classic house, while tracks like ‘See Me Feel Me’ and ‘Outside’ are breezy and sophisticated. The album is a bold statement from two artists at the top of their game.

Since the release of the ‘Fleur’ EP, Stewart and Sharma have taken the Sepalcure live act to SXSW and the Winter Music Conference, the Unsound Festival in New York, and Britain’s legendary Big Chill festival, as well as a host of other dates in Europe and America. The duo is slated for an appearance at Unsound 2011 in Poland, and will be debuting the Sepalcure Live A/V set at the upcoming Mutek: Mexico City, expanding upon the themes of their album art for the first time in a live setting.

The album will be available on CD, vinyl, and digitally.
