Release date: 12″ 7 Nov 2011 / iTunes & Beatport 21 Nov 2011

Mysterious and mercurial Dutch producer Shook returns with his hotly anticipated ‘Rise & Fall EP’.

‘The Glow EP’ established Shook as a prodigious talent, creating a veritable storm on the blogs. Taking in a range of influences from the musicality of early 80s soul and boogie through to the dance-floor sensibility of French house and electro, the EP drew acclaim from the likes of Ed Banger glitterati Kavinsky and Breakbot, Louis La Roche and many more. Mixmag were quick to feature Shook in their Keep An Eye On section and remix requests flooded in from Ellie Goulding to Phoenix to Penguin Prison to MIA. ‘The Rise & Fall EP’ finds Shook in a transitional mode, as the sound of ‘The Glow’ has been refined and honed into something more mature, dramatic and powerful.

Opening track ‘Through The Fire’ sets the scene with a stadium rock-esque intro giving way to an assured mid tempo groover with a keen sense of drama and tension. ‘Hold Tight’ is the EP’s love letter to the 80s boogie sound reflected in Shook’s music. It’s a funky, filtered work out building to a crescendo of Rhodes chords and clavi solos. ‘Rise & Fall’ continues with a tough 80s funk sound, while Shook runs wild on the keys. ‘She’s Waiting’ is a carefree jam based around a catchy keyboard hook and vocal snippet, showcasing a softer side of Shook. ‘Picture Moment’ rounds off the EP, all finger snaps and heartfelt keys, a sensitive, expansive ballad.

In the contemporary musical landscape between the nu-boogie scene headed up by artists such as Dam Funk, and the French house disciples such as Breakbot, Shook is a single-minded artist carving out a niche all of his own.

Mixmag “Shook is a Dutch producer who has received props from the Ed Banger crew and it’s not hard to hear why. He specialises in peak-time boogie that is pretty irresistible and the full effect of his sound can be felt in his forthcoming ‘Rise And Fall’ EP. It’s out on November 7 on Epicenter and comprises five tracks of disco-electro gold.”

Kavinsky Drops New Single “Nightcall”

Produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo
from DAFT PUNK, and featuring vocals
 from CSS’ Lovefoxxx!

Out September 10th via Record Makers

Download :Three “Nightcall” Remixes from Robotaki, SAWAGii and Ed Banger’s Breakbot HERE!

Kavinsky is back, and ready to drop his newest single “Nightcall” on September 10th via the legendary French electronic imprint Record Makers. Fans don’t have to wait that long to catch a glimpse though- today, we’re excited to offer you not one, but three free remixes of “Nightcall.” The single is composed of four tracks that represent the sensual, epic and romantic French sound like never before.
Produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and mixed by SebastiAn, the track finds the spooky, distorted, zombie vocals of Kavinsky perfectly counterbalanced by the sultry purr of CSS’ front kitten Lovefoxxx.
For the B-side, Kavinsky has produced the fantastic “Pacific Coast Highway,” a track that really taps into the Kavinsky story, as a voiceover narrates a high-speed ghost-car chase on the freeway. Kavinsky’s trademark arpeggiated 80’s sound forms the stylish backdrop to a thrilling pursuit the cops don’t have a chance in hell of winning.
The remix package  for this release comes courtesy of secretive and emblematic figures. Kavinsky & Record Makers organized a remix contest which ended with 533 entries-  the winners being Robotaki and SAWAGii’s remixes, both included in the digital version, as well as the great work of the funky new Ed Banger sensation Breakbot.  “Pacific Coast Highway” gets a treatment by the enigmatic Jackson, a true hero of the French electro sound of the last decade. The avante-garde producer, signed to Warp, transforms the original chase into a sprawling, drawn-out nine-minute epic that is pure high-octane.
The legend of Kavinsky is an interesting one – the strory goes that he died in a car crash in 1986, whilst driving his beloved Testarossa. He re-appeared as a ZOMBIE in 2005, with his 12-inch, Teddy Boy. Since then, he has shown up all around the globe, playing his music to humans. Crowds gathered to witness the miracle: despite being dead, Kavinsky was still alive. In 2007, he released his second 12-inch, ‘1986’.
This is when his French robot mates in Daft Punk invited him to join their Alive Tour, and A-Trak put together an American Tour in his now repaired Testarossa. After rediscovering the world with his red eyes, Kavinsky retreated to his base camp to work on his debut album. Now, the zombie is striking back. After months of studio work on his forthcoming album, he & Record Makers have decided to release “Nightcall” as an apéritif. Sit back, enjoy and get ready for the main course…
