Forrest. – ‘Shiny Suit Man’ EP

Beverly Hills (Original Mix) - Forrest.
Since his first single ‘Masquerade’ dropped on vinyl just over a year ago, Forrest’s profile has continued to rise, with releases on Noir Music and Mobilee and forthcoming on Visionquest.

Forrest’s latest release, his debut for Midnight Vision, demonstrates his intense and versatile sound. The lead track ‘Shiny Suit Man’ blends hypnotic, cheeky vocals with dusty drums to create a roller, which sounds great both in the headphones and on the dancefloor. ‘My Factory’ continues on the deep tip and mixes vocal samples and modulating synth lines to create a smokey atmosphere. ‘My Factory’s’ slinky bassline drives the track along and will get any floor moving… ‘Beverly Hills’ teases us with an uncomplicated arrangement of slick house with sustained strings providing the tension and a great use of a female vocal sample. Closing the EP, new kids on the block Bodhi bring a garage swing to their remix of Shiny Suit Man kicks, their introduction of heavy syncopated 808’s paired with shuffling synths bring a new flavour to the EP.

Track List:
 1. Shiny Suit Man 2. My Factory 3. Beverly Hills 4. Shiny Suit Man (Bodhi Remix)

Jay Shepheard – Home & Garden +Stream new Track

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on December 19, 2012 by dk

jay home-gardenHome & Garden is the debut album from the already established artist Jay Shepheard due for release in early 2013. Shepheard has been releasing 12″s and singles, and remixes steadily since 2007, blending disco and deep house seamlessly into his own unique sound.

Now he delivers an 11 track journey through a wider genre scape, mixing tempos and feeling but adhering to a consistent sound design the album blends the influences that his work has come to represent and is an many ways is a retrospective nod to a culmination of the last 5 years releasing. With an underlying depth of feeling running through the record, the from the looped up sample groove of ‘Zippin’, the spaced out future disco of ‘Signs’, the elated retro house of ‘Two Much Love’ and the slow mo deep pop of ‘Here Comes’ the album has been designed and conceived to flow as one piece and avoid the all too common trend of ’10 club tracks on a CD’ that has come to permeate much of the electronic music and deep house album market.

The album will be released on Shepheard’s own Retrofit label, the 11th release following on from a string of 12″s featuring along side himself artists including Catz ‘n Dogz, Iron Curtis, Matthew Burton, Martin Dawson, Rudy’s Midnight Machine (aka Faze Action) and many others. The album will signify a new chapter for the label – moving on from the ‘seriers based’ first 10 releases all named by catalogue number alone and into new and unexplored territories.

John Digweed is set to release “Live In London” (4xCD) (Bedrock)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 8, 2012 by dk

You will hear more than 50 tracks and remixes from some of the world’s best underground producers, including the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Tiga, Deetron, Gabriel Ananda, Robert Babicz, Max Cooper, Ben Pearce, jozif, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Luca Bacchetti, Todd Bodine, Pig & Dan, Butch, Paul Ritch, Justin Martin, Catz ‘n Dogz, SIS, Smash TV, Julian Jeweil, Subb-an, Phonogenic, Technasia, Guy J, Heiko Laux & Diego Hostettler and many others. “Live In London” is a flawless journey through some of the most exciting current electronic dance music, all programmed and mixed to perfection, forming the perfect snapshot of one of the best Bedrock events of the year.

The Bedrock Anniversary parties in London are always truly special as it feels like coming home to me. For some reason this party seemed extra special, Fire in Vauxhall is a new venue for us and it has a labyrinth of rooms under the arches which allowed us to feature a line up that most festivals would be happy with! There was definitely a magical vibe in the air when I arrived. I had heard that people had travelled from Russia, America, all over Europe, even New Zealand, to be there. The party was perfect for me, the amazing international crowd created an incredible atmosphere all night long. I love DJing more than ever these days, so to get to play for over 8 hours to an up for it crowd like that, was just pure heaven. This is the first time I have released a 4xCD live mix from one of my gigs and I hope it brings back some great memories for those who were there. If you couldn’t make it, turn the lights down low, turn the volume up loud and I think you’ll understand. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did playing.” – John Digweed

Catz ‘N Dogz -Body Language 12(Get Physical)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 20, 2012 by dk

 – The 12th episode comes from Polish duo Catz ´N Dogz who now reside in techno hub Berlin

– The collection features exclusive unreleased tracks from artists Eats Everything, Chmara Winter, Trikk or Squarehead as well as their favourite old classics tracks remastered

– Catz ´N Dogz debut album came out on Mothership in 2008 to great acclaim and they are currently working on a follow up featuring dOP, Claude Von Stroke, Jazzanova’s vocalist Paul Randolph

And the legend continues … Body Language has reached it´s 12th edition; proving that you can´t keep a good dog down. Mixed previously by acclaimed artists like DJ Hell, M.A.N.D.Y., Modeselektor, Dixon and more, it´s now time to hand over the controls to the next in line, this time it´s polish duo and Pets Recordings lead-men, Catz ´N Dogz.

Greg and Voitek have been extremely busy lately, establishing themselves on a global scale as artists with somethin´ to prove. Originally from Poland, the two began as ´3 Channels´, playing the Polish scene, and growing artistically and musically with each passing moment. They eventually departed from their homeland and set up base in Berlin. A name change came with their new surroundings and ´Catz ´N Dogz´ was born.

Their next move is unleashing a collection of their best cuts from the dancefloor. The duo said of Body Language Vol. 12, mixed by Catz ’N Dogz, “We were really happy that Get Physical asked us, especially because we are in good company here. We grew up listening to people like DJ Koze, Dixon or DJ Hell (previous Body Language mixers) so it´s a big honour for us.”

“This is our first official mix compilation, so we wanted to make it very special. We knew we want to make something showing all the music we like and what we play in clubs. Most of the older tunes we put in our mix have a lot of meaning to us. J. Antoni, Rhythm Plate, Schatrax or Gant – we have them on vinyl and through all these years the records are so used, that it is impossible to play them in the club anymore, because the needle always skips and they are really hard to get! What took the most time was to find all the people that own the rights to the old tracks we used in the mix, and allow us to remaster them and put them in our mix. It´s nice that some of the classics (that we love), will be now known and heard at home by other people; thanks to this compilation.”

“For our own label, ’Pets Recordings’, we get a lot of demos, and we got in touch with some new talents like Eats Everything, Chmara Winter, Trikk and Squarehead. They made really cool exclusive tracks for us and every track is very different. We are especially very happy with the Chmara Winter track and the SLG edit of Chez Damier and Robert Bosco, because it adds another Polish artist to the mix; and these guys are really talented.”

“We really wanted to show that it is possible to put every kind of genre of club music in one mix. That’s the idea of the cover; it shows our heads cut in half and with layers inside. We tried to create an art form from different layers that completes one finished piece. When we play in the club, we play very similar and we are changing the mood very often and try to keep things fresh and the surprise factor high.”

Gemini – Tribute Vol 2 (Robsoul, ROBSOUL105) (Preview Clips)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 13, 2012 by dk

March 2011 saw Phil Weeks’ Robsoul Recordings revisit 4 of Gemini’s classic tracks, originally released on Cyclo Recordings in the 1990’s.  The release, simply called ‘Tribute EP’, was all that needed to be said about the impact Spencer Kincy has had on Phil Weeks’ own brand of house music.   January 2012 will see round two hit the shelves as four more Gemini tracks from the Cyclo vaults will be released as Tribute Vol 2.

The release of the first Tribute EP in March helped take Gemini’s music to a new generation.  Publications including DJ Mag, DeBug and 5 Mag all leant their support along with DJs including Soul Clap, Maya Jane Coles, Till Von Sein, Lee Burridge, D’Julz, Deetron, Danny Tenaglia, Catz N Dogz, Spencer Parker, Doc Martin, Charles Webster, the list goes on and on (…and on).

The Tribute EPs prove that, despite no longer being involved in the music scene, Spencer Kincy’s genius touch remains.

5 Magazine’s Terry Matthews on Gemini:
“Spencer Kincy was giant in Chicago’s House Music revival – part of the second wave of younger DJs and producers that took the music of the early 1980s, rubbed it up and dropped it in places like 500 West Cermak, Medusa’s and the Vault. A lot of people who are now superstars of the scene – Mark Farina, Sneak, Derrick Carter, and dozens of others – were a part of that movement, too. Spencer released a number of tracks on Relief, Planet E, Cajual, Peace Frog – labels representing the classics of that era – and he usually recorded under the name Gemini.”
