‘To Dust’ is the first solo album from British soul sensation, Alice Russell since 2008’s critically acclaimed ‘Pot Of Gold,’ and marks the next step forward in her remarkable career. Whether on a big stage with her 16 piece band, charming a crowd of 4000 into staying out dancing in the rain (as she did at Montreal Jazz Festival) or rocking out an intimate club with a stripped-down six piece,Alice’s natural talent and charisma have always commanded attention and affection. Unfazed by taking to the spotlight after a sober Amy Winehouse or joining Roy Ayers live for ‘Everybody Loves The Sunshine’, it is no wonder she has attracted worldwide media support, and praise from fans as diverse as Gilles PetersonDavid ByrneDennis Coffey, Massive Attack’s Daddy G, and Groove Armada.

Tru Thoughts have recently announced the signing of this new solo material for territories including the UK, Americas, Australasia and Japan; reuniting Alice Russell with the label that introduced her to the world, and where she released her first three albums, as well as myriad collaborations since (including the highly acclaimed, BBC 6Music Playlisted “Look Around The Corner” single and album with Quantic earlier this year).

Laura Stevenson announces New Album “Wheel”+Free Download

Posted in Indie, Punk with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 28, 2013 by danimonster

Laura WHEEL_COVErLaura Stevenson is thrilled to announce the release of her newest full-length album Wheel, out April 23rd on Don Giovanni Records (Screaming Females, Hilly Eye). Wheel features strings by Grammy award winning violinist Rob Moose (Bon Iver, Antony And The Johnsons), brass accompaniment from Kelly Pratt (Beirut, Arcade Fire, David Byrne and St. Vincent), and was produced and mixed by Kevin McMahon (Swans, Titus Andronicus, Frightened Rabbit, Real Estate).

Stream/Download “Runner

The Brooklyn based artist will also release a three song 7″ EP for the album’s first single “Runner” with a release party at Music Hall of Williamsburg on February 8th. In March she and her band will take to the road, playing dates throughout the east coast and southern states with a stop at SXSW along the way. Upcoming tour dates below.

Pre-Order the “Runner” 7″ EP on Don GiovanniiTunes

Laura Stevenson was born and raised on Long Island with music in her blood. Her grandfather Harry Simeone a successful composer (“Little Drummer Boy”, “Do You Hear What I hear”) and her grandmother Margaret McCravy (stage name McCrae) a singer for bandleader Benny Goodman. On Wheel she pours geography and heritage into the record, tackling family dynamics of dependence and support, and the feelings of isolation and insignificance that she has experienced while growing up surrounded by a vast body of water on a planet surrounded by an endlessly expanding universe. The album is also about coming to terms with these relationships and feelings, as well as her own and other’s mortality. Many of the lyrics on the album explore these themes before coming back to an understanding and acceptance of our place in the world, the short time we will spend here, and the people we end up sharing it with.

They Might Be Giants new album, Join Us, is the recordings that their fans have been waiting 20 years for! Impossibly catchy, sometimes strange and always original the album is a stunning return to form. On Join Us we find the Brooklyn originals have returned to rock and to their singular sensibility that made them an instant phenomenon in the world of alternative rock. Join Us is an electrifying mix of clever, maddeningly catchy songwriting and studio mastery. The album was created in the brand new private studio of their long-time collaborator Patrick Dillett (David Byrne, Mary J. Blige, Tegan and Sara, Doveman). The advance tracks are released digitally today on iTunes through the “Complete My Album” program, with the full album arriving in all digital and physical outlets July 19, 2011 through Idlewild/Rounder Records.
The advance track offering opens with “Can’t Keep Johnny Down”–a summer-perfect pop single that will get instantly stuck in your head and make you want to roll down the windows. The electronic ballad “Never Knew Love” puts a new and simple twist on the love song.  The pure folk-pop of “Old Pine Box” showcases the band’s signature harmonies, handclaps and the always popular, never anticipated vocoder. Check out the “Can’t Keep Johnny Down” MP3 HERE.

They Might Be Giants unlikely success story started nearly three decades ago with their Dial-A-Song service. High energy, low budget videos broke them into heavy rotation on MTV and the rest would soon become alternative rock history.  Along the way the band has become the recipients of two GRAMMYs and a platinum record (1990’s Flood). They recorded numerous themes including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, their GRAMMY-winning theme Malcolm In the Middle and many more.
Notorious for their energized live show, They Might Be Giants will launch the first international tour in over a decade this Fall, hitting 6 countries and over 50 US cities.  Several tour dates have been announces & stay tuned for more details next month!

Superfly Productions and A.C. Entertainment are excited to announce the initial lineup for the 2011 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The 10th annual four-day camping and music festival will be held on June 9 – 12 on the same beautiful 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles south of Nashville. A full list of confirmed acts follows, and more will be announced in the coming weeks. The final Bonnaroo 2011 lineup will total over 125 bands and over 20 comedians performing on 13 stages over four days.Tickets for the event will go on sale on this Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 12noon eastern exclusively at
The 2011 event marks the 10th year for the legendary festival, which began in 2002 as a remarkable idea to serve a passionate yet underappreciated and overlooked fanbase, and ended up becoming the premier multi-day concert destination of the summer whose dynamic and eclectic programming paved the way for the age of the great American music festival. This year’s lineup is yet another fine example of the incomparable eclecticism for which Bonnaroo has become famous. Featured acts include: Eminem, Arcade Fire, Widespread Panic, The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket and Lil’ Wayne, String Cheese Incident, Robert Plant & Band of Joy, Mumford & Sons, The Strokes, The Decemberists, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Florence + the Machine, Girl Talk, Primus, Big Boi, Gregg Allman, Robyn, Deerhunter, Sleigh Bells, Amos Lee, Opeth, Del McCoury and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Wanda Jackson, The Walkmen and an exclusive festival performance by Buffalo Springfield featuring Richie Furay, Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Rick Rosas and Joe Vitale. This year’s lineup will again cement Bonnaroo as a force in music discovery, exposing its fans to legendary artists, current favorites, as well as breaking acts.
As one of the special programming highlights of its 10th year, Bonnaroo is excited to announce a rare joint appearance by Dr. John and The Original Meters recreating, in its entirety, the legendary 1974 album Desitively Bonnaroo, the source of the festival’s moniker. Another celebratory aspect to the programming, organizers have confirmed Eugene Hutz as the curator of this year’s specialty venue, dubbed “Global Gypsy Punk Revue.” Continuing Bonnaroo’s tradition as a platform for historic collaborations, the festival is announcing the return of the SuperJam featuring Dr. John, the Black Key’s Dan Auerbach and more to be announced soon.
As the only round-the-clock major U.S. music festival, Bonnaroo packs an unparalleled amount of entertainment options into its four days. The event has offered its attendees the amenities and community spirit of a small city, with 24 hours of activities including a comedy theater, cinema festival, broo’ers festival, silent disco, salon, sustainable gardening lessons, arcade, Internet cafés, restaurants, yoga classes and hundreds of high quality craft vendors. About the 2010 event, Rolling Stone hailed, “In its ninth year, Bonnaroo has done an impressive job of hanging on to its reputation as one of the most eclectic music and arts festivals,” while the Wall Street Journal called it “one of rock’s best festivals,” and MTV claimed, “If you’re angling for a road trip – there’s no better destination.”
In celebration of Bonnaroo’s 10th year and in recognition of the festival’s iconic status, Ben & Jerry’s will be making Bonnaroo Buzz available for purchase in pints in frozen foods freezers across the country as the company has selected it to be one of its prestigious flavors for 2011. Bonnaroo Buzz is the flavor Ben & Jerry’s designed in 2010 specifically in honor of the festival. Until now, it was only available in Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops.
