Variations – Be Seeing You out on 26.05.14

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on April 29, 2014 by J.D.

Variations - Be Seeing YouKey figures in Dub Police’s next-generation talent movement, Thom Clarke and Nick Bartlett have been unavoidable since launching last year. Their debut EP ‘Thanks For Coming’ scored an impressive 25 in the iTunes electronic chart. Picking up support from across the board – B-Traits to Drumsound & Bassline Smith – it showcased their creative ability with raw sonic clout and led to key appearances representing Caspa’s label on Kiss FM, GetDarker and more recently at Dub Police’s very own warehouse event.

Naturally this follow up develops on the justified hype, taking them to an entirely new level with three cuts that sound like nothing else around right now. Get to know:

‘Endlessly Empty’ is a stark construction of crisp, sense-snapping ingredients; each one balanced perfectly in the mix to forge a brutal battle-like precession. Precision synths rattle with anthemic devastation, unique FX twists bubble and shake on the fills while a searing bassline rips and blasts in unity with an army of chants. The results are nothing short of overwhelming.

You may already be acquainted with the monster that is ‘Subbington’. A prize piece on Dub Police’s recent ‘Past, Present, Future’ album (and one of the few album tracks that enjoyed prestigious vinyl treatment), it’s an iced-out adventure into the timeless realms of deep dub heritage, charged by smouldering sub-soaked kicks and bassline that purrs like a titanium tiger. Heavily textured by an array of meditative pads and synth lines, it’s an instant cause for complete dancefloor hypnosis.

For a fittingly dramatic finale we hit the OMG button with ‘Ermahgerd’. What begins as a shimmering, star-gazing half-step suddenly explodes into a firing 4/4 stomp that scratches and scuffs with a raw, aggressive dynamic. Momentum is maintained throughout thanks to a series of strict builds that overlap each other with a powerful sense of insanity. Serious peaktime business; we guarantee panic whenever you drop this.

One EP, three mind-blowingly extensive flavours: If variety is the spice of life, Variations are adding serious spice to Dub Police’s ever-developing bass broadcasts… Trust us: they’re already deep into their next release. We’ve heard it and we can’t wait to deliver it!

1. Variations – Endlessly Empty
2. Variations – Subbington
3. Variations – Ermahgerd

Ethic ‘What Ya Call Me EP’ + free download

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 25, 2014 by J.D.

Ethic - What Ya Call Me EP - ArtworkAs a leading member of Dub Police’s new generation of ground breaking artists, Ethic has already torn the dance to shreds at Fabric and demonstrated his serious skills on respected platforms such as GetDarker and Kiss FM. Galvanising his reputation as a key artist to watch in 2014, the ‘What Ya Call Me’ EP represents Ethic’s true talent and broad sonic range.

First revealed by Caspa on his ‘Dubstep Sessions’ album, ‘What Ya Call Me’ is a future-focused sensory attack: Opening with alien moans and dynamic drums, a tribal frenzy ensues as a brutal 4/4 riddim takes over. Mind-blowing use of the vocal as a percussive tool ensures heads are locked throughout. Next up, ‘Temple Run’: One of the exclusives on Dub Police’s recent ‘Past Present Future’ opus, its energy and focus create total four-to-the-floor immersion. Stamping into the darkest districts of the dance, the sharp hooks twist and turn with an emphatic sense of insanity. Those hungry for a more euphoric sensation will resonate with ‘Rise To Glory’. Here Ethic develops Dubstep’s classical dynamics with a vaunting halfstep and evangelistic synths so epic they’re powerful enough to give you a spiritual experience. Finally we hit ‘Embrace’. A stunning ode to the two-step roots, it reveals yet another exciting side to the Woking-based artist. Coated in emotion and breath-taking atmosphere, it’s a reminder of how soulful UK garage can be when conjured by the right specialist.

With heaps more next-level material due in the coming months, Ethic is at the very start of an exciting career. Fully representing Dub Police’s dedication to the next generation, his reputation as a key artist to watch in 2014 deserves every slice of hype and more.

Deep Heads to release compilation ft. James Blake, SBTRKT, Sampha(Preview)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 21, 2014 by J.D.

Deep Heads to release compilation ft. James Blake, SBTRKT, SamphaDeep Heads, a label famed for its continual championing of the most exciting music from the dubstep genre, is proud to announce the release of ‘Deep Heads Dubstep Vol. 1‘, a 2-disc compilation to be released on 21stApril.

Deep Heads Dubstep Vol. 1’ is set to cement the label’s reputation for showcasing dubstep music of the highest quality. Featuring a mixture of unforgettable classics and exclusive, unreleased tracks, this compilation will both satisfy the hungriest of dubstep diehards as well as offer the perfect introduction to the genre to those less familiar with the thriving UK scene.

The compilation is mixed by George Harris, aka Geode, who is hailed as one of dubstep’s most important new producers. Geode spent his early teens experimenting with drum and bass production and has now developed a unique take on the genre; an eclectic fusion of deep-seated bass lines with jazzy riffs. A founding member of the Chord Marauders collective, the mix perfectly demonstrates the young artist’s talents as a DJ.

The dubstep that Deep Heads are representing with this release is one inspired by the UK Bass driven scene, pulling heavily on influences from UK Garage, drum and bass, grime, dub, reggae and jazz – setting it apart from the ‘faux-dubstep’ of the club-oriented scene.

The compilation is unique in its equal representation of upcoming talent, such as CongiAudialist and Jafualongside some of the genre’s most famous names, which include James Blake, SBTRKT, Sampha, Synkro, Submotion Orchestra, Numbernin6 and Biome.

As well as the almighty compilation, the CD will include a download card for all tracks to be downloaded individually as an extra thank you to fans.

Caspa feat. Diane Charlemagne - Reach For The Sky
CASPA ‘REACH FOR THE SKY’ FT. DIANE CHARLEMAGNE

1. REACH FOR THE SKY
2. REACH FOR THE SKY (THE OTHERS REMIX)
3. REACH FOR THE SKY (BREAK REMIX)
4. REACH FOR THE SKY (RS4 REMIX)
5. REACH FOR THE SKY (INSTRUMENTAL)

Released 24.02.14

In April, Dub Police figurehead Caspa returned with his sophomore album ‘Alpha Omega’, the long-awaited follow-up to his 2009 debut ‘Everybody’s Talking, Nobody’s Listening!’. Making his most decisive musical statement yet, the album runs the gamut of sounds and scenes that inspire Caspa’s music, and the bold move undoubtedly paid dividends. Now, the label is giving ‘Reach For The Sky’ a new lease of life as a single alongside a diverse selection of remixes from The Others, Break and RS4.

Featuring legendary soul singer Diane Charlemagne, who many will know as the voice of Goldie’s seminal track ‘Inner City Life’, ‘Reach For The Sky’ is a an ideal choice as the next single. Channeling rave’s break-driven sugar rush, the euphoric piano melodies perfectly compliment Charlemagne’s soaring vocals, while the tight drum and bass style edits and plunging bassline deliver a big soundsystem production.

Up first on remix duties, label stalwart The Others brings a darker edge to the track, suspending the vocals over lurching drums and heaving bassweight. Drum & bass innovator Break rarely does remixes, but jumped at the opportunity to get involved in this project, twisting the original and inserting intricate drum edits over a rolling rhythm, letting the vocals and melodies from the original set the tone before breaking out into a full on jungle brockout. Completing the package, upcoming talent RS4 delivers a stripped back and low-slung tech house mix utilizing the vocals to complement the funk-lined groove.

1. OIKI – RATCHET

Release date: 24/02/14

2013 has been an incredible year for Moscow-based artist Oiki. Having catapulted himself into the dance with his incendiary debut EP ‘Get It Now’, he’s shown bold creative scope with every genre-smelting twist and turn of his journey so far. Supported by BBC Radio 1, and scoring a coveted position in the Beatport Dubstep Top 10 with his last track ‘Are You Scared’, Oiki’s presence in electronic music has been unavoidable.

His forthcoming release ‘Ratchet’ continues this rich vein of form, showcasing Oiki’s skills to a whole new level. A boundary-breaking one-track special, brought to you by Dub Police, it’s yet another sure-fire smash from the Russian artist.

Igniting with an infectious ricochet riddim and head-twisting vocal textures, we’re then hurled face first into a carnal riff. Firing with loopy, techno-like tenacity it then slam-dunks into a heaving half-step and layers of rich bass.

Dynamic, daring and ultimately devastating, ‘unique’ is an almost impossible word to apply in dance music these days… But this insane fusion of industrial strength grit truly is one-of-a-kind.

A fittingly bold conclusion to Oiki’s incredible year, ‘Ratchet’ has already been tried and tested by Dub Police label boss Caspa with tremendous results. And if you’ve enjoyed his output this year… Just wait until you hear what he has in store for 2014!
