New Ringo Starr DVD

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on February 27, 2013 by dk

Ringo Starr is a living legend whose contribution to the roots of rock and roll is immeasurable, not only as a Beatle, but also through his prolific and successful solo career. In gathering a new group of iconic rockers to play as the All Starr band each tour, every configuration offers a new and memorable moment where we get to experience songs we all know and love.

Ringo At The Ryman, filmed on July 7, 2012, celebrates Ringo’s birthday with an extra special lineup touching on some unforgettable hits spanning four decades – from Steve Lukather (Toto), Richard Page (Mr. Mister), Mark Rivera (Billy Joel), Gregg Rolie (Journey, Santana), Todd Rundgren and Gregg Bissonette. The set list is undeniably familiar: “It Don’t Come Easy,” “Act Naturally,” “Photograph,” “I Wanna Be Your Man,” “Yellow Submarine,” and his bandmates’ contributions “Roseanna,” “Black Magic Woman,” “Kyrie Eleison,” “Bang the Drum All Day,” and so many more.

During the show at the Ryman, the All Starrs weren’t the only stars out that night. Joe Walsh makes a special guest appearance to play “Rocky Mountain Way” and is then joined for the encore, “With A Little Help From My Friends,” by his daughter Lucy and some of Nashville’s finest players such as Brendan Benson, Kix Brooks, Gary Burr, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley and former All Starr alums Felix Cavaliere and Richard Marx.

Ringo at the Ryman is a musical journey featuring great players and great classic hit songs, all-in-all a momentous celebration, and a heck of a birthday party.

Queen to release “Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live In Budapest” DVD+(Cinema Trailer)

Posted in News with tags , , on October 18, 2012 by dk

“Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live In Budapest” is a must–see concert experience by legends of rock, Queen, and now comes to DVD and Blu-ray. It will be released on DVD, Blu-Ray, 2CD and DVD Deluxe Edition and a 2CD and Blu-ray Deluxe Edition on November 5th worldwide.

Originally filmed in 1986, this momentous concert movie has been re-mastered in high definition and superb 5.1 surround sound. An amazing performance is now available to be seen in crystal clear HD clarity.

Also included on the DVD and Blu-ray is a new 25 minute documentary feature entitled “A Magic Year”. This follows Queen from just after their historic show–stealing performance at Live Aid, London, on 13 July 1985, through the year leading up to the epic concert in Budapest. Using archive footage from rehearsals, interviews with the band in the studio and on the road during the Magic Tour – some of which has never been seen before – this fascinating feature has been specially created for this new release.

As part of the hugely successful 1986 Magic Tour that, poignantly, was the last to be played by the band with Freddie Mercury, Queen were for the first time able to include Hungary on the tour schedule. With three years to go before the fall of the Berlin Wall, this was the largest concert ever staged at the Népstadion, Budapest, and the first Western Rock Concert staged in a stadium behind the then Iron Curtain. It was of such significance to the Hungarian authorities and film industry that a group of the country’s top film cameramen and technicians were brought together to film it for posterity.

Staged for 80,000 ecstatic fans, the concert set includes favourite hits like Bohemian RhapsodyCrazy Little Thing Called LoveI Want To Break Free and We Are The Champions.

“We’re delighted that Queen fans across the world will finally have the chance to relive this amazing moment for the band. We knew a stadium concert in Budapest was ground–breaking, but hadn’t quite anticipated what a historic night it would turn out to be.  The concert looks fantastic on the screen in all its digitally re-mastered glory and the documentary does a great job of setting the scene – it really was an extraordinary time in the band’s history.”  Brian May and Roger Taylor

Adele “Live At The Royal Albert Hall” Nov. 29th

Posted in News with tags , , , , on October 27, 2011 by dk

Adele fans won’t be seeing the British singer unfurl her tales of heartbreak in person anytime soon, as the 23-year-old is in the middle of “an extended rest period” due to a hemorrhaged vocal chord. In the meantime, Adele’s live show will be captured in “Live At The Royal Albert Hall,” a concert CD/DVD due out Nov. 29 on XL/Columbia Records.

The DVD and Blu Ray will include Adele’s full 90-minute performance from her Sept. 22 show at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The accompanying 17-track album features a mix of the singer’s “19” and “21” hits, as well as covers of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and The Steeldrivers’ “If It Hadn’t Been For Love.”

“21,” Adele’s sophomore album released in February, returns to the top spot on the Billboard 200 this week, marking its 13th week at No. 1. With 4.1 million copies sold according to Nielsen SoundScan, “21” is easily the year’s biggest-selling album, and has moved twice as many copies as the runner-up, Gaga’s “Born This Way” (1.9 million). (Billboard report)

Here is the track list for Adele’s “Live At The Royal Albert Hall”:

Hometown Glory
I’ll Be Waiting
Don’t You Remember

If It Hadn’t Been For Love

Download: FACT mix 179 – Mogwai

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 27, 2010 by dk

This Friday’s FACT mix is the work of Scottish post-rock legends Mogwai.

Formed in Falkirk in 1995, Mogwai this week released their first live package, taking in a concert recording, Special Moves and a DVD companion, Burning. It marks fourteen years of existence for the band, whose early albums Young Team and Come On Die Young represent some of the most influential music of the era – taking the long-form instrumentals of Louisville’s Slint, and injecting them with a very human, and very British melancholy and sense of humour, looking to their peers Arab Strap as well as the likes of The Cure and Fugazi for inspiration. Later in the decade, Mogwai would work with Andrew Weatherall, Alec Empire, The Manic Street Preachers and more.

The noughties would see Mogwai continue to hone their sound, reaching new peaks with tracks like ‘Glasgow Mega Snake’ and ‘Auto Rock’, while also moving into soundtracking, working with Clint Mansell on Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain and most notably, providing the score for Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, the film study of French football legend Zinedine Zidane.

Mogwai’s FACT mix was made by long-term member Barry Burns, and features The Fall, Fad Gadget, Tuxedomoon and more – you can read an interview with him about the mix and recent Mogwai goings on over the page. Special Moves / Burning is out now.

Download: FACT mix 179 – Mogwai
(Available for three weeks)

Clark – Absence
Jeunesse d’Ivoire – A Gift of Tears
Tuxedomoon – What Use
Fad Gadget – Arch of the Aorta
B-52s – Dirty Back Road
Deux – Game and Performance
New Order – Video 586
Severed Heads – Dead Eyes Opened
Fever Ray – Dry and Dusty
Snowy Red – Baby Tonight
Sardine – Stuck on You
Pere Ubu – Heart of Darkness
Can – Oh Yeah
The Fall – I Am Damo Suzuki

Many thx to Fact for this podcast!!!

Mogwai to Release the Concert Film “Burning”

with Live Album Special Moves
Out on August 24th

Directed by Vincent Moon & Nathanael Le Scouarnac
of La Blogotheque’s Take-Away Shows

View Trailer HERE
Seminal Scottish post-rock band Mogwai are thrilled to announce their first official live concert film release “Burning” with accompanying live album Special Moves. The film, directed by Vincent Moon and Nathanael Le Scouarnac of the world-renowned La Blogotheque’s Take-Away Shows, was shot at the band’s sold-out three-night residency at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg in April 2009.

These creative powerhouses in film and music have come together to produce something undeniably unique and mesmerizing, grabbing the audience from the first opening seconds and never letting go. The 45-minute film presents itself as a modern urban noir thriller, a black-and-white journey, starting on the same electrifying New York streets Bernard Hermann scored for Martin Scorsese. Manholes hiss steam, taxi headlights flare in the camera lens and strangers wait in street corner shadows. Moon and Le Scouarnec call their film an “experience of the senses… a lifetime of feelings in just one night.”

The release also includes Special Moves, an 11-track live album. For a band who comes to such epic, monumental life in the live arena, it might be surprising that this is the first official live concert compilation they’ve ever released…and we think you’ll be excited by the results! And fans can download for free the track “New Paths to Helicon Pt. 1” from the concert HERE, as well as pre-order the limited edition album/dvd bundle (with the added bonus of 3 pieces of vinyl, signed poster and patch!) HERE.
