NameBrandSound is the latest incarnation of London music legends IG Culture and Alex Phountzi (Bugz in the Attic) -both are pioneers of the broken beat scene and
were key players in it’s flagship night at Plastic People, Co-Op. A beacon for people who wanted to dance to great music, Co-Op was a towering high point of electronic music in the capital.
NameBrandSound’s music thus consists of the influences you might expect; dancehall, ‘80s soul, jungle, juke and house. What emerges, though, is more than the sum of its parts. ‘Nowadays Pressure’ is a hugely refreshing, invigorated EP of electronic songs. Heavy and light, pummelling and caressing, emotive and tough, this is the sound of masters at work. The pair dub the sound ‘pressure;’ a rough meets smooth aesthetic that injects London’s bass music energy to the spirit of Metalheadz’ D’n’B-with-feeling and Massive Attack’s infectious mood.
Woodkid, aka Yoann Lemoine, the world-renowned French musician, director and producer behind acclaimed videos for Lana Del Rey’s Blue Jeans and Born To Die, Drake & Rihanna’sTake Care and Katy Perry‘s Teenage Dream doesn’t seem to want to slow down. After the critical success of his debut album, The Golden Age, Woodkid will be bringing his celebrated live performance to Coachella, playing both Fridays of the festival.
Woodkid will also be lending his impressive grasp of audio-visual experiences to the New York City Ballet. An eight-minute pièce d’occasion, conceived and directed by JR (2011 TED prize winner), the ballet will be set to an original score composed by the Grammy-nominatedWoodkid.
Says the singer-songwriter-keyboardist-producer of his soaring, often orchestral songs: “I want people to feel like heroes when they hear my music.”

Big Dada new artist Kate Tempest will release her album “Everybody Down” May 19th. Kate is best known as a poet, perhaps a performance poet or a spoken word artist. She also has a novel coming out next year with Bloomsbury. But ask Kate what she is and she’s more likely to say she’s a rapper. That’s her true and first love. More of Skinnyman than Seamus Heaney, more of Deal Real’s legendary Friday night rap battles than a book signing and reading at Foyles. “Everybody Down” has twelve ‘chapters’ telling one long, inspired story, a unique, one-off project and comes produced in its entirety by Dan Carey (Bat For Lashes, M.I.A + Hot Chip). The result is a revelation.

Hybrid Theory (Four40 Records) reworks the once tense gritty bass anthem with smooth musicality and slick garage grooves over the top of crisp four to the floor drum patterns and percussion. Jamie George’s pitched down vocal throughout creates a dark soulful presence, and with the use of cool melodic synths and stabs, the track is transformed into an uplifting big room banger while still maintaining its original underground essence.
Hybrid Theorys remix, (which was originally made only as a one off for Jamie and Hannah Wants) was first previewed as part of Jamie Georges “Ones2Watch” mix for Urban Nerds, but with the great feedback received on the track, Jamie and Hybrid Theory only saw it fit to give it away as an exclusive free download to you.
