Featuring Previously Unreleased Recordings

This unique, 12-track album celebrates 50 years since the release of James Brown’s classic 1963 live album, Live At The Apollo, and showcases his many great performances recorded at the iconic Los Angeles venue. Brown, who would have reached his 80th birthday on 3rd May 2013, first arrived at the Apollo in April 1959 as an opening act for Little Willie John, one of his idols. He wasn’t to remain an opener for long and “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business” would play the Apollo, Los Angeles more than 600 times during his career.

This title comprises 12 tracks from James Brown’s three landmark albums recorded at the historic venue: Live At The Apollo (recorded 1962, released 1963), Live At The Apollo Vol. II (recorded 1967, released 1968) and Revolution of the Mind: Recorded Live At The Apollo Vol. III (recorded and released 1971). Additionally, this set includes two unreleased tracks taken from the album, Get Down at The Apollo with The J.B.’s: Live At The Apollo Vol. IV – recorded in September 1972 but ultimately never released.

The 2011 event marks the 10th year for the legendary festival, which began in 2002 as a remarkable idea to serve a passionate yet underappreciated and overlooked fanbase, and ended up becoming the premier multi-day concert destination of the summer whose dynamic and eclectic programming paved the way for the age of the great American music festival. As one of the special programming highlights of its 10th year, Bonnaroo is excited to announce a rare joint appearance by Dr. John and The Original Meters recreating, in its entirety, the legendary 1974 album Desitively Bonnaroo, the source of the festival’s moniker. Another celebratory aspect to the programming, organizers have confirmed Eugene Hutz as the curator of this year’s specialty venue, dubbed “Global Gypsy Punk Revue.” Continuing Bonnaroo’s tradition as a platform for historic collaborations, the festival is announcing the return of the SuperJam featuring Dr. John, the Black Key’s Dan Auerbach and more to be announced soon.

The event has offered its attendees the amenities and community spirit of a small city, with 24 hours of activities including a comedy theater, cinema festival, broo’ers festival, silent disco, salon, sustainable gardening lessons, arcade, Internet cafés, restaurants, yoga classes and hundreds of high quality craft vendors. About the 2010 event, Rolling Stone hailed, “In its ninth year, Bonnaroo has done an impressive job of hanging on to its reputation as one of the most eclectic music and arts festivals,” while the Wall Street Journal called it “one of rock’s best festivals,” and MTV claimed, “If you’re angling for a road trip – there’s no better destination.”
In celebration of Bonnaroo’s 10th year and in recognition of the festival’s iconic status, Ben & Jerry’s will be making Bonnaroo Buzz available for purchase in pints in frozen foods freezers across the country as the company has selected it to be one of its prestigious flavors for 2011. Bonnaroo Buzz is the flavor Ben & Jerry’s designed in 2010 specifically in honor of the festival. Until now, it was only available in Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops.

TEMPLE MUSIC GROUP PROUDLY PRESENTS:

JASWHO?

RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM, NUDROID MUSIK ON NOVEMBER 2, 2010

With a list of credits a mile long, Jaswho? (pron. Jase-hoo) Aka Jay Williams, has played a key role in creating some of San Francisco’s most notable, break-out dance tracks for over a decade. From deep house to dirty disco and broken beat, Jay has helped to literally define the lauded “San Francisco Sound” as producer, engineer, session player and music director.  From Naked to Wave Music in the late 90′s, to Permanent Vacation and Rong/DFA in the modern era, Jay has appeared on nearly every notable label on the list.  Jaswho? brings those skills and his talent as a multi-instrumentalist when he performs his totally live, laptop-free and never-twice-repeated sets. Williams has toured extensively through North America, Europe and Asia and Jaswho? music has been licensed for ringtones, TV shows, and feature films.  If there’s a dance party going on somewhere in the world, chances are Jaswho? is on the scene one way or another.

The story of Jay’s youth goes something like Prince, Prince and more Prince. He grew up emulating not only the Purple one, but all of his cassette tape heros on guitar, keyboards, drums, bass and anything else he got his hands on that would move him an inch closer to the fresh and electric sounds were defining the 80′s right before his young eyes.  Africa Bambaataa, Run DMC, Eric B and Rakim, Hall and Oates. James Brown, Bjork, Sly & Robbie. If it had soul, funk, attitude or any combination thereof, Jay was picking it up.  Add to that- early techno, Chicago house, New York house, house parties, UK Garage, a healthy addiction to analogue synths, drum machines, outboard gear, inboard gear, WHATEVER gear there was.  Williams also displays a knack for hooking up with like-minded vocalists, musicians, DJs and producers, and all of it culminates to form the eclectic, energetic and ever-evolving Jaswho? signature sound.

A Hartford, CT native, Williams came up with his distinctive moniker in 1989 while on a trip to Barbados. He was a graffiti writer, and every wall he bombed he signed with a different first-name abbreviation, such as JasWhat?, JasHow?, JasWhy?, eventually selecting the Who? extension as his recording alias. He’s used it ever since- 1989 to be exact, which was also the date when the natty dreadlocked artist ceased cutting his hair. Like his long dreads, Williams’s music ambitions have grown steadily from a young age.

Today, Jaswho’s live performances are a large part of the equation, and despite his calm aura, Williams ripples with energy on stage. It is both a soul-stirring dance experience to hear the songs played and mixed to a connected & rejoicing dancefloor, and an awe-inspiring stage performance when you see him produce phenomenal sounds from a handful of machines, right in front of your eyes. Williams eschewed computers from day 1 for an all-hardware set up including an Alesis MMT8 sequencer, Roland  MC909, Korg SX and KP3 with a Roland keyboard controller and microphone.

Jay is one of the founders of Soulmine, a Bay Area indie house label and recording studio established in 1999, and Music Director at Temple SF, San Francisco’s largest nightclub. You can also find him recording at Moulton Studios as one of the members of 40 Thieves, touring with his bands Spigga and Playground People, producing artists at Temple Studios SF, performing live keys for a Paul Hemming DJ set, or recording a session for someone else’s next big hit.

Upcoming work by Jaswho? includes his highly anticipated full length, Nudroid Musik (November 2, 2010), See Ya Dancing with 40 Thieves on Permanent Vacation (Fall 2010). Recent releases include the 2 recent hit singles Candycane and Wake Up Call (featuring Chloe Jarvis) for Temple Music Group; Williams performed, produced or co-produced every track on the recently released Prana compilation also on TMG; More recent releases include Ladies on Soulmine Records; The Jaswho? EP on Electric Zen Music;  Johnny Dynell Jam Hot (40 Thieves Remix) for Smash Hit Music; Karsh Kale’s Beautiful Remix for 6 Degrees Recordings; Peter Bjorn and John’s Young Folks Black (Wangz Remix) for Energy 92.7 FM with co-TMG DJ/producer, DJ Durben (aka Ben Tom); Mash It Up Live Version and Studio Mix on Amfibius Recordings. Other places to find JasWho music?: OM Records, Rong/DFA, Tu Rong, Grayhound Recordings, Output Recordings, Coco Machete Records, Imperial DUB, Six Degrees, Stranger Music,  Transistor Rhythm, Redux Records, Hector Works, Music Mine (Japan), Jah Love Recordings, Verdad y Justicia, Supermercado Recordings.

“My ability to play keyboards, guitar and bass is my calling card. It’s introduced me to a lot of producers and grounded me in the music community,” says Williams of his creative network adding, “The synergy in the Bay Area is ridiculous. Everyone is connected and working on similar projects. Everyone plays each other’s records.”

The word is definitely out about this immensely talented producer and performer.  He’s funky, and very much out front of the curve, as all who take in his gigs and music learn. “I bring a sense of urgency and fearlessness. I don’t care whom I’m in front of – young or old. When I play, I do it one-hundred percent.”
