Undocument “Pleasures”

Undocument PleasuresLong Beach, California producer / artist UNDOCUMENT will be releasing his brand new video for “This Lullaby”, the first single from his latest release “Pleasures” on July 3rd, 2014 through his YouTube and Vimeo video channels.

The imaginative feature was directed by undocument and stars “This Lullaby” vocalist MaQui Sainz in the lead role, amid creepy mannequins, ornate costumes, and stunningly detailed make-up and hair, all overlaid with numerous mysterious and provocative projections. It was produced and filmed entirely on set at Sound Matrix Studios in Fountain Valley, California.

The look of the inspired video combines Bjork and Ellie Goulding together with a delicate touch of elements inspired from 80’s fantasy movies like The Neverending Story and Labyrinth, and ultimately take the lyrical imagery of the song in a new direction both visually and thematically.

I’m really excited to be able to bring ‘This Lullaby’ to life with its own music video,” UNDOCUMENT says.MaQui not only has a phenomenal voice, she had a lot of wonderful ideas and had a great expressive attitude on camera.”

UNDOCUMENT’s debut album, the ambitious and instrumental “For Lovers, Dreamers & Non-Believers” was released in 2012 to positive acclaim, has been followed up with his newest release “Pleasures”, boasting eighteen original songs including his first ever collaboration with vocalist MaQui Sainz on “This Lullaby”.

But it’s not the first time UNDOCUMENT has produced his own video. The memorable shoot for “A Flood Of Ghosts”, took him and his small crew to a local park on a location shoot, where amusingly enough, a photographers club was meeting to shoot the wildlife. With a alien film crew exciting the flora and faun a, the aspiring paparazzi ended up shooting the lead actress instead of the birds and the trees.

Mark Barrott -Sketches From An Island

Mark Barrott -Sketches From An IslandCertain places have a history that allows things to happen outside the norm. Ibiza is one of those.  A place where anyone with an open heart can find their space.  A place where maverick thinking still matters.  It´s this environment that in turn nurtured and created the music and style known as balearic.

This is what I call Balearic Jose Padilla

In 2014, a new generation of DJs, bloggers, and house heads are embracing the into-everything mentality that marked out the original balearic beats, including the widescreen, afterhours sounds made famous by José Padilla’s sunset DJ sets at the Café Del Mar and Alfredo´s legendary sets at Amnesia.

Mark Barrott’s ‘Sketches From An Island’ compresses this Balearic heartbeat into nine warm gems which paint a picture of the island, the people and the magnetic beauty that pulses through it.  Recorded in Ibiza´s northern hills using “weird percussion, some slide guitars and a few borrowed synths,” it’s a melodic and mysterious representation of a place seeped in a rich and rebellious history.

Scuba – Phenix 1 (PNX001)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 8, 2014 by dk

scuba phenixPaul Rose’s Scuba project has seen him make some of the most pertinent and exciting music of the past few years, and through his legendary Hotflush imprint he continues to push innovative, exploratory new club music in every way he sees fit. From winning a coveted DJ Mag award for ‘Best Live Act’ to the release of ‘Update’, a collection of tracks exploring his rich and diverse back catalogue, Scuba enjoyed a remarkable 2013. Now back with ‘Phenix 1’, his first new material since 2012’s acclaimed Hardbody single, expect him to enjoy an equally successful year this time around.

‘Phenix 1’ is the first in a series of three releases that represent a bold new chapter in an already diverse career. “After ‘Triangulation’ I made a conscious effort to do the opposite thing that people expected of me”, Scuba himself explains, “..which is obvious in the contrast between that album and the ‘Adrenalin’ EP, the ‘Personality’ album and then the ‘Talk Torque’ and ‘Hardbody’ singles – those two tracks especially were the furthest I could push that approach. I feel like it’s time to move on now and the Phenix series is quite a large step away from that sound and that approach to things.”

Having originally made his name as a pioneering dubstep producer in the genre’s formative period, Scuba has since gone on to develop a distinctive sound incorporating elements of house, techno and even disco. Inspired (though not defined) by a move in 2007 to Berlin and close ties to it’s revered Berghain club, he has continually set the benchmark for others to follow in the world of underground electronic music. Now intent on exhibiting a different sonic approach to that which made him a fixture in top clubs across the globe, Scuba is ready to make waves with the first installment of the Phenix series.

“There’s still a strong dance floor element to it all but with a much greater emphasis on mood and atmospherics”, Scuba himself says of the EP. “There are elements of all the different stages my production work has taken in previously too, but the result is a bit different to all of them.”

Full to the brim with ingenuity and underpinned by a firm desire to tread it’s own path, Scuba’s ‘Phenix 1’ ranks as some of the most intriguing work of his career to date.

Submotion Orchestra -Damn Hot (Stream)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 2, 2013 by dk

With two incredibly successful albums under their belt Submotion Orchestra bring their latest five track EP to UK independent Circus Records. The seven-piece group that formed in 2009 have forged a large loyal fan base with their blend of Electronica, Jazz, Dub and Soul, music that has been described as ‘stunning’ by The Guardian and ‘seductive’ by The Times.
Following a chance meeting in London with Circus co-founder Flux Pavilion who declared his love for the band, SubMo promptly signed to the label reaffirming the notion that Circus have always sought to release only the highest quality music, regardless of genre. Flux Pavilion says“to release Submo on Circus is amazing, I’ve always been a big fan of their music.”
The new EP 1968 is a masterclass in ethereal, soulful vocals that sit astride shuffling drums as on ‘Broken World’ or ‘Breathe It In’. Lead singer Ruby’s voice echoes early pop Janet Jackson on ‘Damn Hot’ whilst title track ‘1968’ is smooth and subtle: echoing piano keys gliding beneath intricate layers of sound. From French Electronica Duo AIR Comes a New Project; Starwalker(Stream Bad Weather )

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on October 4, 2013 by dk

Starwalker - Bad Weather“Bad Weather” is the first single from electro-pop supergroup Starwalker, comprised of Frenchman Jean-Benoit Dunckel (AIR) and Icelandic composer Bardi Johannsson (Bang Gang).

Reminiscent of both of their past projects, it is as immediate as anything AIR has put out since Talkie Walkie, with panoramic atmospherics courtesy of Johannsson. Haunting and deliberately paced, it is a testament to the power of restraint. Unlike most of the electronic pop of the day, it sounds timeless.

Amidst ominous clouds, mist rising out of the red dust around them, Dunckel and Johannsson walk through a majestic, deserted landscape, as mysterious hooded figures and black balloons come in and out of the frame, suggesting a kind of fragile, uncertain peace.

By the end of the video, the black balloons fade into the ether, like the “Bad Weather” of the past has faded into the recesses of our mind.

“Bad Weather” is an engrossing audio/visual experience from two masters of atmosphere and tension.

Debut EP out soon.
