Ruth Koleva - What Am I Suppose ToHaving already taken her native country by storm, 2014 is the year that this young artist becomes renowned on an international scale. Born into a volatile world of corruption and hardship in post-Communist Eastern Europe, Ruth found salvation in the classics (Marvin Gaye, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole) and quickly developed into a rounded musician and became an ambassador for the best of Bulgaria – winning GRAZIA’s Woman of the Year.

Koleva’s ability to straddle multiple genres and tempos has made her into a highly versatile artist, which has seen her draw comparisons her contemporary, Jessie Ware. As a vocalist, her tone is imbued with warmth, particularly when speaking on matters of love and sensuality. Inspired by such era-defining artists as Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, Ruth manages to both tip her hat to the classics which have informed her sound, while still saying something new and pushing boundaries.

The album is preceded by the release of lead single ‘Turn This Around‘ on 3rd February. With its smooth jazz rhythm, rolling synth melodies and a truly mesmerising vocal performance from the Bulgarian singer, ‘Turn This Around’ makes the perfect showcase for Ruth’s confident songwriting talent and her ability to break hearts, as the track builds to a poignant final breakdown.

Bo Saris
She’s On Fire
(Maya Jane Coles Remix)
21st May

A bonafide popstar in his home country of The Netherlands, Bo Saris releases his first UK single ‘She’s On Fire’ on the 21st May, remixed by one of the biggest names in House music right now, Maya Jane Coles.

Reminiscent of classic Motown, ‘She’s On Fire’s’ soulful grooves and slick vocals are manna from heaven for multi-award winner Maya Jane Coles, who drives a beat akin to a rolling steam-train underneath Bo Saris’ sweet, love-sick harmonies.

Fans (and there are many) of Coles distinct brand of house music will instantly recognise her hand in the proceedings. ‘She’s On Fire’ is a certified dancefloor weapon, guaranteed to earn a permanent home in the best DJs boxes and soundtrack sunshine moments in bars and on terraces across Europe this Summer.

Whilst Bo Saris’ sound pays homage to the classic sounds of legends such as Bill Withers, Prince, Marvin Gaye and Amy Winehouse, he wears their influence lightly and with such a fresh and accessible approach, you’ll soon be remembering Bo’s name in the same esteem.

Michael Kiwanuka Announces July 31 Release of Debut Album “Home Again”

Michael Kiwanuka Announces Release of Debut Album Home Again
Out on July 31 on Cherrytree/Interscope Records

British artist Michael Kiwanuka is pleased to announce July 31 as the US release date for his debut album Home Again. The album will be released through Cherrytree/Interscope Records. Home Again follows Michael’s 2011 EPs ‘Tell Me A Tale’ and ‘I’m Getting Ready’, released on Ben Lovett’s (Mumford and Sons) Communion Records. The album was produced by Paul Butler from The Bees in his home studio on the Isle of Wight. The partnership takes Michael’s effortless melodies, observant lyrics and smooth voice and builds them into timeless and rootsy folk-inflected modern soul recordings. The majority of the instruments played on the record are by Michael and Paul, with the pair inviting other musicians from the island to contribute as well.

Born and raised in North London by Ugandan immigrants, Michael’s ’60s soul and introspective lyrics are drawing comparisons to Otis Redding, Bill Withers and Marvin Gaye. He topped the BBC Sounds of 2012 list, joining the ranks of previous winners including Adele, Corinne Bailey Rae, 50 Cent, Ellie Goulding, and others.

You can watch the music video for “I’m Getting Ready,” one of Home Again’s tracks:

Last December, Michael sold out headlining shows in both Los Angeles and New York City following a run of supporting dates with Adele in the UK and Europe. Time Out NY called his two New York shows the best events in entertainment that week, and The LA Times deemed Michael “underrated,” noting: “What grabs you first is that voice, a delicately sandpapered, yearning instrument that recalls Bill Withers over a shuffling, breezy funk rhythm. Once the Afrobeat horns and “What’s Going On?”-era strings come in, you’re hooked and ready to hear more.” Esquire proclaimed, “This time next year, you’re going to be tired of people telling you about Michael Kiwanuka.”

Asa to Release Beautiful Imperfection in the US

September 6th via Naïve Records

Catch Her Live in New York and LA

Download : Asa -Why Can’t We

Nigerian songstress Asa will release her soulful and uplifting sophomore album, Beautiful Imperfection, in the US on September 6th through Naïve Records.  Building upon the tremendous international success of her 2007 self-titled debut, Asa expands both her emotional and stylistic range on her follow-up.  Beautiful Imperfection has already received acclaim in numerous countries across the sea, and now Asa is setting her sights on the US.
From the opening track, “Why Can’t We,” it is apparent that Asa is exploring new territory with this collection of songs.  While being anchored in the same timeless and heartfelt spirit of her debut, she has also grown as an artist and taken the next logical step in her evolution as a singer and songwriter.  Asa first caught the ears of her global audience with her smoky voice and confident political messages, which were wrapped in deceptively sweet melodies and laid-back acoustic guitar strumming.  On Beautiful Imperfection she has shifted her goal towards creating more joyous, uplifting music, while weaving together 60’s soul, pop, reggae, rock, and more.  Tracks like “Be My Man” have a playful, up-tempo feel while others, such as closing track “Questions,” are gorgeous, haunting ballads.
The decision to include songs with more of a positive, hopeful sentiment was a natural one, as Asa wrote the new material while her aspirations of being a musician were finally fully in motion.  Growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, she spent countless hours getting lost in the music and messages of artists like Fela Kuti, Marvin Gaye, Michael, Jackson, and King Sunny Adé.  Though she always dreamt of being a musician herself, she didn’t think this goal was within the scope of her reality.  However, as a teenager Asa’s mixture of perseverance, talent, and good fortune led to her being discovered while performing while an ensemble in France.  Now Asa is ready to fully follow her muse and bring the whole world along with her.
Asa US Dates:
06/08:  New York, NY @ Rockwood Music Hall
06/13:  Los Angeles, CA @ Hotel Cafe
