Pearls Negras – Pensando em Você (“Thinking of You”)

Pearls Negras - Pensando em VocêBrazilian rap girl gang PEARLS NEGRAS have released their video for ‘Pensado Em Voc?’, a track from their Biggie Apple Mixtape which was unleashed at the end of 2013 to praise from across the globe. The video for the song (translated to English as ‘Thinking Of You’) was shot in the square which is at the very top of the Vidigal Favella in Rio De Janiero where the band grew up and continue to live now, and the break dancers in the video are all close friends of the group.

The bands unique music and lyrics reflect both the danger and the colour of life as a teenager in one of the toughest and biggest cities in the world, with tracks on their mixtape both reflecting the social disaffection and daily protest happening in Rio, and the day-to-day happenings of girls who still wear braces in their teeth.

Thomas Azier Releases Ghostcity Remix EP

Berlin’s dark electronic pop singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Thomas Azier released his Ghostcity Remix EP  through Casablanca Records. Fans have already heard Pyramid’s great remix of “Ghostcity,” but today Azier has shared his self-remix of the track, along with compiling a new mixtape ( soundcloud). The mixtape features music from some of Azier’s favorite artists, including Kanye West, Kraftwerk, Hudson Mohawke and more.

Thomas Azier was born in the Netherlands, but relocated to Berlin at age 19. After hundreds of sketches and pre-productions on his computer, Thomas Azier eventually started to lay the final touches on his debut in fall 2012. He set up his studio in an old East German factory where the church bells for the Kremlin used to be manufactured. That old factory proved just the right place for the truly industrial twist on pop music Azier was looking for.

Vato Gonzalez about the new mixtape: “The Army of Bastards is movement that goes beyond the support I’d like to give to the next generation of artists. It’s truly an army of people who are as passionate about music as I am. As a collective we look out for our own,  not only when it comes to producing, but also in matters of music theft or the exploitation of new talent by the profiteering gluttons of this industry. We do not take such matters lightly. Any artist can tell you how hard it is to come up in this business when you are on your own, that is why we’ve joined forces and found strength in numbers. It’s easy to mess with one bastard, but not with a whole army of us. Anybody who shares our passion for producing EDM is most welcome amidst us, regardless if they are headlining on major festivals or producing in a basement. I’m very proud at The Army of Bastards as a collective, not only because they are an incredibly talented bunch but also because they truly stand up for each other.”
To support the launch of the mixtape, Vato Gonzalez produced the opening track ‘Strength in Numbers’, which serves as the mixtape’s anthem and will be released shortly. Vato Gonzalez: “With this mixtape series, I try to encourage young producers (of any genre) that there’s a lot you can do yourself without the help/support of the industry, from production to distribution. Don’t get discouraged, you’re not alone in your struggle to find your way to the top. Look around you and assemble! Therefore, ‘Strength in Numbers’ has become the anthem of this mixtape.”
