Mumford & Sons Announce 2013 “Gentlemen of the Road” Stopover Shows

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 5, 2013 by danimonster

Mumford & Sons are pleased to announce the details of the 2013 series of Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers in the UK, US, and Canada this summer.

Each Stopover combines the intimacy of a community celebration with the excitement of a world-class music festival. This year the Stopovers are expanding to a Friday night concert followed by an all-day Saturday event. Mumford & Sons will headline the Saturday show, alongside an eclectic and energetic roster of artists curated by the band themselves. A series of smaller events involving local businesses, venues, and, most importantly, local people will happen in and around the town.

About this year’s upcoming Stopover tour, Mumford & Sons said: “The Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers are all about live music. We get to put them on in towns not normally frequented by touring bands in busses or splitter vans. We deliberately look for towns that have something unique, or some vibe of which they are proud, explore them and enjoy what they have to offer.”

Like last year, the outdoor events will take place in carefully selected and unique locations across the United States and Canada following a stop in the UK, and will feature a host of internationally acclaimed acts including Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Alabama Shakes, fun., The Vaccines, and many more to be announced. This year’s host towns include Simcoe, Ontario, Troy, OH; Guthrie, OK; and St. Augustine, FL. In 2012, the band curated seven total GOTR Stopovers: four in the United States, two in the UK, and one in Australia.

Tickets to the Stopovers go on sale at 11 am local time on February 8th. The tickets are $109, and will have no additional service fees or hidden charges. Each ticket will include a beautifully-designed, commemorative Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Passport. Campsites are incorporated into each Stopover site, and camping has become an essential part of the Stopover experience and is strongly encouraged. Three-night camping passes begin at $40 per person and can be purchased along with tickets at For full details, see below.

Post War Years – Galapagos

Post War Years - GalapagosRelease date: Monday, 25/February/2013
Over the last twelve months Post War Years have been championed for their unique brand of rich and innovative melodies and irresistibly squelchy, electronic basslines. Following two critically acclaimed EP’s ‘Glass House’ and ‘The Bell’, Post War Years announce the release ‘Galapagos’ – a vivid, emotive, and audacious second album, coming out on the 25th February on Chess Club Records.

‘Galapagos’ produced by long-term collaborator James Rutledge (MGMT, Grizzly Bear, Late of The Pier, My Bloody Valentine, The Kills) sees the band tapping into a new and rich stream of subversive and frequently delightful Avant-pop.

‘Galapagos’ is partly an autobiographical account of the band’s less than perfect lives when first moving to London; financial struggles and claustrophobic living conditions fracturing their friendships and driving them to seek release through their music. All of these experiences are reflected lyrically on ‘Galapagos’ through themes of existentialism and personal identity (‘All Eyes’ &‘Nova’), romantic retrospection (‘Glass House’ &‘Volcano’), evolution/atheism (‘The Bell’ & ‘God’) and escapism (‘Growl’)

‘Galapagos’ is packed full of rampant ideas, inexorable grooves, variation in tempo, nuance and arrangements, signaling a major evolutionary leap for Post War Years. To bolster this confident new direction, the band enlisted the talents of Philadelphia’s far out animator and filmmaker, Tobias Stretch (Efterklang and Radiohead). Tobias has duly bestowed his brand of dream-logic surreality upon the band. On top of making all the bands videos, Tobias is working across the entire visual content for ‘Galapagos’. Alongside the work Tobias is creating will be 10 DIY videos, one for every track on the album, created by the band and filmed on their phones.

Along with headlining their own tour in 2013 and dates with Everything Everything, Post War Years have just finished an arena tour as support to Grammy Award winning Mumford and Sons.

Michael Kiwanuka Announces July 31 Release of Debut Album “Home Again”

Michael Kiwanuka Announces Release of Debut Album Home Again
Out on July 31 on Cherrytree/Interscope Records

British artist Michael Kiwanuka is pleased to announce July 31 as the US release date for his debut album Home Again. The album will be released through Cherrytree/Interscope Records. Home Again follows Michael’s 2011 EPs ‘Tell Me A Tale’ and ‘I’m Getting Ready’, released on Ben Lovett’s (Mumford and Sons) Communion Records. The album was produced by Paul Butler from The Bees in his home studio on the Isle of Wight. The partnership takes Michael’s effortless melodies, observant lyrics and smooth voice and builds them into timeless and rootsy folk-inflected modern soul recordings. The majority of the instruments played on the record are by Michael and Paul, with the pair inviting other musicians from the island to contribute as well.

Born and raised in North London by Ugandan immigrants, Michael’s ’60s soul and introspective lyrics are drawing comparisons to Otis Redding, Bill Withers and Marvin Gaye. He topped the BBC Sounds of 2012 list, joining the ranks of previous winners including Adele, Corinne Bailey Rae, 50 Cent, Ellie Goulding, and others.

You can watch the music video for “I’m Getting Ready,” one of Home Again’s tracks:

Last December, Michael sold out headlining shows in both Los Angeles and New York City following a run of supporting dates with Adele in the UK and Europe. Time Out NY called his two New York shows the best events in entertainment that week, and The LA Times deemed Michael “underrated,” noting: “What grabs you first is that voice, a delicately sandpapered, yearning instrument that recalls Bill Withers over a shuffling, breezy funk rhythm. Once the Afrobeat horns and “What’s Going On?”-era strings come in, you’re hooked and ready to hear more.” Esquire proclaimed, “This time next year, you’re going to be tired of people telling you about Michael Kiwanuka.”

Michael Kiwanuka wins BBC Sound of 2012

Soul singer Michael Kiwanuka has come top of the BBC Sound of 2012 list, which aims to showcase the best rising music stars for the year ahead.

With a voice that has won comparisons to Bill Withers, the 24-year-old has already supported Adele on tour.

The Sound of 2012 list was compiled using tips from 184 key UK-based music critics, broadcasters and bloggers.

Now in its tenth year, previous winners include Jessie J, Adele, Mika, Ellie Goulding, Corinne Bailey Rae and Keane.

Kiwanuka, from London, cites influences ranging from Otis Redding and Bob Dylan to Miles Davis.

He started out as a session guitarist, working with Tinie Tempah’s producer Labrinth, before stepping in front of the microphone and signing to the Communion label, which was set up by Mumford and Sons’ Ben Lovett.

He said: “I never expected to be recognised in this way.

“It’s a great surprise and it means a lot that people are accepting the music they’ve heard so far, and it will bring the music to many more people, which for any musician is a great privilege.”

Kiwanuka came ahead of US R&B singer Frank Ocean (Listen), who has worked with Kanye West and Jay-Z and was at number two on the list.

New York rapper Azealia Banks was in third place, followed by high-octane dance DJ and producer Skrillex at four and Swedish electronic duo Niki & The Dove in fifth place.

The list was compiled using tips from 184 influential tastemakers, who each named their favourite three new acts.

The other previous winners are: Ellie Goulding (Sound of 2010), Little Boots (Sound of 2009), Adele (Sound of 2008), Mika (Sound of 2007), Corinne Bailey Rae (Sound of 2006), The Bravery (Sound of 2005), Keane (Sound of 2004) and 50 Cent (Sound of 2003).
