Outlook Festival returns to Croatia this September after last year’s best ever event to date, a celebratory fusion of dub, reggae, hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass, garage, house and more on the dazzling Adriatic coast. Joining the dots between musical legends right through to the next generation of up and coming talent, again some of the finest live acts and DJs descend upon a 19th century fort for five days and nights of amazing music. Close to the historic city of Pula in Croatia’s northern region of Istria, the now iconic Outlook sets the agenda with a world-class array of performers in a collection of truly spectacular locations, set in and around an abandoned fort. Choose from a dungeon, a courtyard, a moat, a boat, the beach or the festival’s main stage set on a harbour. Outlook combines a heady mix of fun in the sun and under the stars as a dedication to sound culture, which has just revealed its first wave of names.

Kryptic Minds ‘Namaste EP’ (Osiris Music uk)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , on February 13, 2013 by E.N.

Kryptic Minds 'Namaste EP'Label bosses Kryptic Minds present Osiris Music uk’s latest release, the ‘Namaste’ EP. Few have had the degree of impact on the underground dance music community that the duo have had, with their impossibly dark sub-sonic explorations inspiring listeners and producers across the globe for over a decade.

‘Nebula’ is a stripped-back affair, with a solid riddim fighting waves of distorted bass. Atmospherics and a short motif that break up the track are quickly silenced by the ever present pulse, reminiscant of modern techno. Althoughly more rhythmically sparse, ‘To Feel’ kicks off with a tense, cinematic intro which quickly gets outed by a heavy kick and sub which feels engineered and crafted for one purpose – bass bin pressure.

2012 was a busy year for Kryptic Minds, with the duo releasing a number of their own tracks and A&Ring a series of rising producers to sign with the label, as well as remix work for Ninja Tune’s Amon Tobin (following on from their previous remix of Emika’s ‘Count Backwards’ in 2011), collaborations with Paul Mac on his debut Osiris release and their ‘Askum’ 12” and ‘The Talisman’ releases on Tectonic.

Support comes from Youngsta, V.I.V.E.K, Pinch, Mala, Icicle and Amit.

Photek & Pinch ‘Acid Reign’ / ‘M25FM’ Photek Productions [PPRO16VS](Preview)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 9, 2012 by E.N.

Two collaborations between two highly respected producers. Photek’s ‘Closer’ marked the 50th release on Pinch’s Tectonic last year, and some time in the studio together has produced these standout tracks. Acid Reign first appeared in January on Pinch’s FabricLive mix compilation, his ‘dubplate version’ described by Fact mag as “a slow-burning half-stepper with a twisted acid melody fighting for air in an oil spill; as claustrophobic as you like, basically.” M25FM appears on Photek’s instalment to the highly respected DJ Kicks compilation series, it’s another acid-tinged track, taking us into much deeper territory.

It’s not easy to keep the information that one of the foremost legends of electronic music will be making a new contribution to the DJ-Kicks series under wraps. In fact, the underground has been buzzing since a new Photek track popped up on the tracklist for the DJ-Kicks Exclusives collection more than a month ago. So while the identity of the first artists to create a DJ-Kicks in 2012 might not exactly be a secret, we finally have the juicy details for you.

With four exclusive new Photek tracks, as well as contributions from some of the pillars of the current bass music scene, including Pinch, Boddika, Sepalcure & others (full tracklist below), this is a mix that we’ll be listening to for a long time to come. Make sure you’re connected w/ Photek on his Twitter & Facebook for further developments. 2012 is going to be an incredible year, and we’re just getting started.

 Bristol In Motion

The new jewel in Bristol’s crown, Motion re-opens its doors in October for another season of the highly-charged and hugely loved ‘In:Motion’ series.  Still reeling from the success of last year’s sell-out autumn events, 2011 sees them come back bigger, better, stronger, louder with the hottest electronic acts of the moment gracing the infamous Bristol ramp skate-park, turned rave haven.
2010 marked the birth of the In:Motion series when the Bristol based promoter team joined forces with the countries most esteemed music brands, bringing with them the finest talent of the underground music scene to the West Country. Creating a succession of unparalleled parties, each one delivered a mind-blowing night of sensational sounds and immaculate production placing In:Motion firmly on the musical map.   As a slew of fresh and talented artists continue to bubble up from the beating heart of Bristol such as Julio Bashmore, Redlight, Eats Everything, Baobinga, Waifs & Strays, Bowski, just the last year alone, the city continues to draw attention and attract producers and DJs from outside. Everyone wants a piece of the sounds and skills that are evolving in the West Country’s musical.
Bristol’s renowned musical heritage, coupled with the strongest brands in the country has resulted in some of the most highly innovative and respected musical programming out there. Those who’ve devastated the Motion dance-floor last year, triumphantly return: Hospitality, BLOC, Annie Mac Presents, Bugged Out!, Run and local heavy-hitting party starters Shit The Bed and Just Jack who collectively brought with them High Contrast, Claude Vonstroke, Simian Mobile Disco, Jamie Jones, DMZ and Joy Orbison.  Joining the In:Motion fold for the first time bringing more interstellar acts to the table throughout the autumn season, we welcome Hessle Audio, FWD Rinse, Field Day Night, Jamie XX, local boys Futureboogie XL, Blowpop and Invisible Circus.
As a venue Motion is carving itself out to be one of the most exciting and unrivalled clubs around. Now nearing festival-calibre this year, they expand into yet more areas of the huge sprawling skate park creating a warren of separate spaces all hosting their own unique party. The raw confines bore witness last year to the magic of man of the moment Seth Troxler in the main Skate Park, Roska and Untold in the Tunnel, Tensanke lighting things up in The Cave with the addition of the stunning Waterside Terrace providing the perfect backdrop. Now with things being pushed even further into the double warehouse as well as outside in the car park which comes equipped with food court, heated seating area and photo-booth, you can let yourself get lost in Motion’s wondrous world of entertainment and outstanding music. Pursuit Grooves will be releasing her solo LP “Frantically Hopeful” in June on Pinch operated Tectonic Recordings. It is guaranteed to be a stand out album for 2011 with early buzz play by Brackles and AlexNut of RinseFM and Anthony Valadez of KCRW

stream “Peace Talks”

and “Transformation of Consciousness”

The LP continues rhythmically where last year’s ‘Fox Trot Mannerisms’ EP left off but launches into a different head space with lyrics touching on current affairs and technological dependency.

Juggling all angles from production, songwriting, MCing and singing, Pursuit Grooves continues what she does best, fusing elements of electronic, hip hop, house and broken beats with sensual melodies and vocals. ‘Frantically Hopeful’ challenges conversations and feet alike, offering a true backdrop to the world we live in today.

Having received kudos from Gilles Peterson, IDJ, DJ Magazine, Fact Mag, Boomkat etc for last years EP “Fox Trot Mannerisms”, Vanese Smith is one of the few producers in the eclectic beat scene who is also an energetic and skilled vocalist/MC who also mainly uses a hardware sampler when performing live. She is also a 2008 Redbull Music Academy alum which also included Onra, Teebs, Dorian Concept, Lukid, Cardopusher and Fatima. Providing sounds that are equal parts soul, house, and broken beat, Pursuit Grooves always DELIVERS!
