Disco Demolition is please to announce the latest incarnation of Codebreaker, The Silver Lining EP, due out on November 23. The three-song EP features the title track as well as remixes by The Outrunners and classic house music legend, Joe Smooth. The result is a unique new sound that’s a bridge between indie disco, house/dance & even boogie/funk worlds. Silver Lining will be the lead track to Codebreaker’s upcoming The Space Chase full-length due out early 2011. Our buds over at Culture of Me got their hands on “Silver Lining” and its available for free download here.
To anyone paying attention to the underground dance music world the last 2 years, Steven Hawley and Sage Schwarm (AKA Codebreaker) are a familiar name. Anthemic, electric and criminally infectious, Codebreaker blends a distinct and irresistible mix of the timeless, warm sound of funk with exciting modern extrapolations on disco, italo, electro, house and more.
Their last 12″ single, “Follow Me” quickly caught the attention of world-class tastemakers including The Juan MacLean (DFA/NYC), Bottin (Italians Do It Better/Venice), and The Outrunners (Valerie/FR), all of who gave the single remix treatments. A brief time before that came the critically acclaimed double 12″ single, “Fire” featuring UK disco diva Kathy Diamond, which elicited praise from the likes of The Washington Post and Pitchfork.
Codebreaker proves more & more that its uncontainable mix is anything but ordinary. By meticulously deconstructing what they “love about the music we love,” Hawley and Schwarm create a sound that is equal parts light and dark by balancing the clean, cool sophistication of electro with the playful passion of disco, while always throwing a little funky swagger into everything they do.
