HF042: ‘Rope’ / ‘Technique’

‘Update’ album to get worldwide release on 2nd December

On 11th November DJ, producer and Hotflush label head Paul Rose is bringing his SCB alias back to the label with new single ‘Rope’ / ‘Technique’. This will be followed by the worldwide release of ‘Update’ in December after its US release earlier this year, compiling a selection of material from Scuba’s burgeoning discography as it looks in 2013.
On the new single, Rose delivers two deep, dark and meticulously honed dance floor productions as SCB. ‘Rope’ is led by its focused percussive drive, letting layers of twisted ambience and decaying synth stabs wrap themselves around the nuanced rhythmic evolution as it penetrates the ether. On the flip, ‘Technique’ offers a looser counterpart as Rose offsets the shuffling groove against the mesmeric swing of the chords that lap against it.
The new single is the latest in a series of SCB releases this year, including original production ‘Dissipate’, which featured on the Nonplus ‘Think And Change’ compilation, and remixes for Jimmy Edgar, Arkist and Wraetlic, which Rose has dropped around a busy touring calendar, packed Hotflush release schedule and remixes of Jimmy Edgar and CLOSE as Scuba.
On 2nd December, Hotflush Recordings will then present the worldwide release of their first album compiling a retrospective of Scuba’s productions, titled ‘Update’. Here old and new fans alike will have the opportunity to get there hands on 12 of the label head’s most critically acclaimed tracks, including music from each of his three albums to-date as well as select singles.
Meanwhile, the Hotflush label has continued to tirelessly push out top quality releases from the likes of South London Ordnance, Locked Groove, Sepalcure, George FitzGerald and Dense & Pika, with Paul Woolford’s utterly infectious single ‘Untitled’ dominating the clubs and airwaves, hitting No.5 in the Beatport top 100 and successfully soundtracking the summer.

Sepalcure – Make You EP (HF039)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 15, 2013 by E.N.

sepalcure make you
After releasing two EPs and utilising the broader canvas of their universally acclaimed debut album (‘Sepalcure’) to develop their collaborative project, the adroit drum-programming and production duo of Sepalcure (Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille/ Praveen & Benoit)) return after a year-long absence with ‘Make You,’ scheduled for release in April on their long-term home of Hotflush Recordings.

Since debuting on the label, Stewart and Sharma have collaborated with the shared understanding that there are no rules to what they can produce. This refusal to be inhibited by any steadfast structures, or expectations set down by shifting scenes and surrounding culture, has allowed their sound to become its own guide, capable of developing in a wholly natural way.

With heartbreaking melodies, skittering footwork percussion, chopped guitar cuts and infectious tremelo vocals, ‘Make You’ is the direct result of this liberated outlook in which disparate elements are given the space to collide head-on in the formation of something completely fresh.

Tracklist:
1. Make You
2. He Said No
3. The Water’s Fine
4. Rumours
5. DMD

Sepalcure – Eternally Yrs

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 27, 2012 by E.N.

Sepalcure follow up last year’s critically acclaimed LP on Hotflush Recordings with a new EP featuring remixes from Kevin McPhee and Trevino (a.k.a. Marcus Intalex), alongside one previously released album cut and one original track.

‘Eternally Yrs‘, originally featured on the LP, makes another appearance on side A, followed up by Trevino’s (Intalex’s moniker for his techno and house projects) upbeat and melodic remix of ‘Hold On’. On the flip, Toronto rising star McPhee turns the classic house sounds of ‘The One’ into a crackly, techno-driven subbass tune. Finally, the emotive ‘Don’t Cry’ hits hard with the trademark staccato bass and processed vocals that Seplacure have come to be known for.

Since the release of their self-titled full length, Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille) have brought their live act to SXSW, Winter Music Conference, Unsound and have played all across Europe and America.

Release date April 16th 2012

Lando Kal – Rhythm Sektion on Hotflush

Lando Kal (a.k.a. Antaeus Roy), one half of Bay Area electro duo Lazer Sword, follows up Maneuver, his 2011 debut for Hotflush, with two cuts overflowing with the darkness of a long Berlin winter. A major player in both San Francisco and New York’s underground club scenes, Lando’s love of R&B, dark jungle, Detroit techno and classic house is front and center on these two bass heavy productions.

The infectious Rythym Sektion comes on strong, Lando expertly weaving the vocals of the 1991 rave classic hinted at in the title with threatening drums and kinetic percussion. On the flip, Lando’s dynamism is on display, as Inquisition’s syncopated beats swagger along, insistent and knocking, drawing you into its multi-layered paranoid rhythms.

Lando Kal has released on respected labels Numbers, Rush Hour, Sugarcane Recordings, Still Cold, and has remixed the likes of Sepalcure, Hovatron, Salva, Sepalcure and Doc Daneeka. Up ahead, lookout for a single dropping on Leisure System, the notorious Berghain party collective and label.
