DEAS Feat. Roland Clark - Let It Go (Secret Room Records)DEAS, DJ and music composer from Poland, remixed by Harvey McKay, Martin Eyerer and Pig& Dan, releasing in such labels as Baroque Records, Deeperfect, Proton, I Am Techno and Material Series, decided to join forces with the legendary vocal in house music history of Roland Clark, author of such hits as I Get Deep, My Place, Flowerz, Have A Good Time, releasing in Toolroom, Off Recordings, Strictly Rhythm and last in Skint, label of Fatboy Slim.
Adding a booming, encouraging Roland Clark‘s voice to the psychedelic techno track of DEAS, the tune stays with you. Supported by smooth bassline and hypnotizing acidic synths the tempo adds flavor. The track itself is leaded by meaty synth, strong enough to slash the air at any party, but yet smooth enough when listened to in a cosy environment. Also the breakdown seems to be one of a kind. Vocal bits and the unexpected drop, proclaims another approach of the impact.

Breach – ‘DJ-Kicks’ (!K7)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 7, 2013 by dk

BREACH_DJKICKS_It’s been a big year for Breach, a.k.a. Ben Westbeech. Almost too big, in fact. His track ‘Jack’ hasn’t just blown up on dancefloors across the globe: it’s laid waste to them. In the process, ‘Jack’ got to Number 9 in the UK charts. Not bad considering Westbeech has always seen Breach as an underground thing. “It’s been wonderful having a record that´s commercially successful,” he says. “The thing is not to lose sight of why you started making music in the first place. I wasn’t trying to get in the Top Ten. I just care about making deep records that I get off on.

Take Breach’s DJ Kicks mix, for example. If all you know about Breach is ‘Jack’, you’re in for a surprise. Likewise, if you’re familiar with Westbeech as a vocalist—both solo (see his 2007 debut album ‘Welcome To The Best Years Of Your Life’ for Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label) and as a guest (he’s appeared on records by Deetron, Jazzanova and Jose James)—you might have to have a bit of a reappraisal. It’s closest in spirit to his 2011 album for New York label Strictly Rhythm, ‘There’s More To Life Than This’. The set of techno and house on offer here is deep. Very deep. So deep you could drop a 909 down it and not hear it hit the bottom. “This is the music that I love, the kind of thing that I play when I DJ,” explains Westbeech. “Imade ‘Jack’ and I play it, but there’s a lot more to the music I love than that.”

Random Soul – Live For The Moment(album preview)

Random Soul - Live For The Moment‘Live For The Moment’ is the debut album from Random Soul, the Australian house duo of Yogi & Husky. The pair have made a big impression in recent years with releases for labels including Strictly Rhythm, Bargrooves, Salted and Large.  The album, released on their own label Random Soul Recordings, presents an effortless journey through 15 tracks that cement their position amongst the most established names in Deep and Soulful House circles, while also showcasing their talent in creating Soul, Jazz and Funk gems.

‘Live For The Moment’ incorporates everything from floating vocals and laidback soulful grooves riddled with live instrumentation, through to bumping, funky club tracks.  The album also highlights Random Soul’s talent as songwriters with a string of captivating vocals featuring strong hooks, often performed by Yogi. Six vocal collaborators include well-known West Coast USA artists Chuck Love and Joshua Heath, as well as Kristen Pearson, Kyla Sexton, Natalie Conway and Louis Hale.  All are close friends of Yogi & Husky, and the chemistry of the relationships shines through: “Working with friends always makes the job seem more fun too, so doing tracks with people like Joshua Heath and Chuck Love, usually meant more jokes and laughing than “work” per say. We enjoy getting other people in the studio as it creates such a different dynamic.”

Listening to these collaborations and the album in full it’s clear to hear where many of Random Soul’s influences lie, with the house sounds of Miguel Migs, Joey Negro, Grant Nelson and Groove Armada providing a strong focus, alongside funk and soul artists such as Rae & Christian and Smoove & Turrell.

The first single taken from the album is ‘Mysterious’ and will feature a Richard Earnshaw remix to be released late January / early February 2013.

Osunlade – A Man With No Past Originating The Future (Yoruba Records)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on January 14, 2013 by dk

ysd48 osunladeA Man With No Past Originating The Future is Osunlade‘s newest offering and his most personal and diverse creation to date.

Featuring soulful electronic sounds, with songs like Vessel and Human Beings, this new album bridges a new spectrum in the musical palette. Osunlade’s 7th studio album begins with the The Realm Of Difference, an ambient soundscape of air meeting the heartbeat of thought and distance. Sour The Plan, featuring newcomer Supreme, dives into political and social opinions on the world we live today, its clear demise and lack of organic vibration. Eclipse allows a jazz influx where syncopated rhythms dance around time signatures effortlessly. The signature funk in Luna Moth and Camera Shy pay homage to the Minneapolis sound without a copy in sight. Human Beings is a vocoder dream ballad floating on water, while Goddess provides a piano, flute dance. Overall, this album is an evolution and conscious realisation that individualistic music means more than what is being offered.

A Clear focus in production and approach, A Man With No Past Originating The Future is meant to soothe the soul and heal the heart. If you’re looking for what you think you know of the music of Osunlade, you will stand corrected. A Man With No Past Originating The Future is an endeavour of passion. A Love of Self and a call for more than hope in the world. It asks you to see things for what they are and not for what they seem. It’s simply good music.

With Ben’s There’s More To Life Than This long player just around the corner, here’s a little taster of what’s to come. Produced by Enzyme Black, Something For The Weekend is a house-inspired, disco-tinged feelgood groove that’s a perfect prelude to the full length set. This first salvo is a taster for the taster, especially for the heads; Gerry Read provides the jazzed-out broken beats while Roska and Ben’s alter ego Breach drop variations on dub step and retro-rave respectively.

The full Something For The Weekend single includes remixes by Breach, Joey Negro, Lee Foss & Robert James, The Revenge, Roska and Gerry Read. Ben¹s new album, There¹s More To Life Than This, will be released on 12th September via Strictly Rhythm.
