CRMCD022 RebelRave3_CoverhighresAs Crosstown Rebels reach a decade of existence they look back with pride on one of their most prolific years to date with the third episode of their treasured Rebel Rave series. This three disc compendium of their yield from 2012 walks back together through a year which saw them launch a mystical festival, Day Zero, and reconnect with classic artists from the label’s history such as Mathew Jonson, Jamie Jones, Tiga & Dinky as well as typically introducing a sea of new faces such asFrancesca LombardoAmiraliFur Coat and Aidan Lavelle.

The third disc is a nostalgic journey on the whole label’s history mixed together by rising star, Subb-an. Named as DJ Magazines ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ in their 2011 end of year awards, Subb-an’s prodigious studio talents have seen him in demand for remixes of mainstream artists such as Jamie Woon, Lana Del Ray, Noir & Haze and Hollis P Monroe over recent months. An instigator of the infamous Below events in Birmingham and co-owner of One Records alongside Adam Shelton, Subb-an has gradually become cherished worldwide as a tastemaker and musical innovator.

His mix exudes a flair for winning over the dancefloor with graceful stitching and vivacious grooves. He ducks and dives taking a tripped out mood through mind-expanding choices such as Gavin Herlihy’s‘Witching Hour’ and Loco Dice’s remix of Riz MC’s‘Radar’ before steering back to driving into the midst of the night with glorious choices such as D’Julz’s edit of Solomun’s anthemic Rebellion release ‘Daddy’s Jam’ and Subb-an’s own‘Misleading’. His peers Jamie Jones, Francesca Lombardo and Amirali also offer highlights to his seamless selection, with Amirali’s ‘Whisper’ adding an epic and graceful close to his episode.

Subb-an will be a main artist featuring on the colossal 10 years of Crosstown Rebel Rave tour in 2013, taking in five continents and eighteen countries alongside the label founder and flagship artist, Damian Lazarus. This global journey will bear fruit to another torrent of mind tripping, off-the-grid events driven by their tight-knit Rebel family of artists.

John Digweed is set to release “Live In London” (4xCD) (Bedrock)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 8, 2012 by dk

“Live In London” features nearly 5 hours of amazing music across a bumper 4xCD set from John Digweed, recorded live in the mix at the recent Bedrock Anniversary Party at Fire & Lightbox, London. You will hear more than 50 tracks and remixes from some of the world’s best underground producers, including the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Tiga, Deetron, Gabriel Ananda, Robert Babicz, Max Cooper, Ben Pearce, jozif, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Luca Bacchetti, Todd Bodine, Pig & Dan, Butch, Paul Ritch, Justin Martin, Catz ‘n Dogz, SIS, Smash TV, Julian Jeweil, Subb-an, Phonogenic, Technasia, Guy J, Heiko Laux & Diego Hostettler and many others. “Live In London” is a flawless journey through some of the most exciting current electronic dance music, all programmed and mixed to perfection, forming the perfect snapshot of one of the best Bedrock events of the year.

The Bedrock Anniversary parties in London are always truly special as it feels like coming home to me. For some reason this party seemed extra special, Fire in Vauxhall is a new venue for us and it has a labyrinth of rooms under the arches which allowed us to feature a line up that most festivals would be happy with! There was definitely a magical vibe in the air when I arrived. I had heard that people had travelled from Russia, America, all over Europe, even New Zealand, to be there. The party was perfect for me, the amazing international crowd created an incredible atmosphere all night long. I love DJing more than ever these days, so to get to play for over 8 hours to an up for it crowd like that, was just pure heaven. This is the first time I have released a 4xCD live mix from one of my gigs and I hope it brings back some great memories for those who were there. If you couldn’t make it, turn the lights down low, turn the volume up loud and I think you’ll understand. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did playing.” – John Digweed

Crosstown Rebels presents Rebel Rave 2 mixed by Droog

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 25, 2011 by dk

2011 has been the best year so far for arguably the world’s best underground dance label, Crosstown Rebels. Having released incredible artist albums by Maceo Plex, Deniz Kurtel & Art Department and the sublime ‘Get Lost 4’ mixed by Damian Lazarus, they now release Rebel Rave 2 as a compendium to their most prolific year to date. The album showcases highlights from the year over two discs and features a stunning DJ mix on CD3 mixed by high flying LA threepiece collective Droog.

Rebel Rave returns with another three discs of upfront material from the Crosstown Rebels recent catalogue, in a similar format to the first edition. Featuring some of the most ground-breaking, critically acclaimed and widely loved singles from the Crosstown stable this year; from label stalwarts Jamie Jones, Glimpse, Deniz Kurtel, Dan Berkson and head honcho Damian Lazarus, to a sea of new faces in Russ Yallop, Fur Coat and Subb-an, and outstanding contributions from two of this year biggest artists Maceo Plex and Art Department plus huge releases from Guti & Dubshape, Solomun, James What, Inxec & Droog.

The collection is a great barometer to Crosstown’s triumphant year. The first two discs are unmixed and span buried B-sides, reedits and remixes from some of this year’s biggest releases, featuring work by some inspirational producers such as DJ Harvey, Guy Gerber, Maya Jane Coles, Dixon, Ewan Pearson, Ivan Smagghe, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Zev (Wolf + Lamb) and many more. Disc three is a superb mix of highlights and fresh material from the imprint sonically sculptured together by LA’s Droog. Hypnotic and alluring, vibrant and exciting, this timeless journey cements a victorious year for both the imprint, and its expanding family of artists.

Born in 2008 as a prolific film series that follows some of the most charismatic and formidable characters of the underground dance music scene as their career takes them around the globe (www.rebelrave.tv), Rebel Rave has become a benchmark for a new coming of age for house and techno music. Put together by global pioneers of the industry, Crosstown Rebels, Rebel Rave is a beacon of kudos, keeping a foot firmly in the underground while carving its own path into the mainstream.

The first compilation came from Clive Henry and for the second episode we meet Droog, a unique three piece collective from Lazarus’ new home in Los Angeles. Droog are Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Sloe, a dynamic trio of producers, DJs and music lovers that have set about instilling their passion into their beat hungry West Coast environment. Droog are behind the infamous rooftop soirees at LA’s Standard hotel that brought the elite of house and techno to the city for the first time.

Now regularly showcasing the best talent and with Steve Bug, Magda, Dixon and Soul Clap all big fans of the series, Culprit sessions are undoubtedly the superior event in LA for cutting edge music. In 2009, Droog started their Culprit label, initiated with the debut release from Hot Natured. Since then it has supported the careers of local talent such as Kenneth James Gibson and Lee Foss (before his relocation to London) and brought early releases from Matt Tolfrey & Inxec and Ovum star M A N I K.

Damian Lazarus established Crosstown Rebels 8 years ago and has created a covert force of nature that continues to dig up new talent and future heroes. Rebel Rave is the label’s flagship calling card and an annual celebration of its achievements to date. Rebel Rave marks the close of 2011 for Crosstown Rebels, while next year promises to be an yet more prolific, with new albums from Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex, Art Department & Deniz Kurtel, as well as debut albums from Fur Coat, Amirali and many other exciting new projects.

Red Dot Relief – rebuilding Japan Together

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 22, 2011 by dk

The current situation of the earthquake, tsunami and the nuclear plants is in a way the most severe crisis in the 65 years since World War II.” Naoto Kan, Japanese Prime Minister

What is Red Dot Relief?
It is a group of artists and supporters of the dance music community who are asking YOU to compare those factors mentioned above and to make magic happen!! Red Dot Relief is a call to action across the dance music community in a bid to raise money and spread awareness of the disaster stricken regions of Japan. Spearheaded by Visionquest (Seth Troxler) & Friends alongside the Tuning Spork Efforts Team we are trying to influence others to follow and donate whatever they can to the disaster fund by involving not only artists but the wider community in this cause including event organisers, promoters, club owners, clubbers, agencies, music labels and the supporting press.

For our Red Dot Relief proposal and full details please click here

How can you help?
If you are an artist
– Help us promote this effort via your social networking websites, mailing lists and most importantly word of mouth (talking has been proven to still be the most effective way to exchange ideas and turn them into reality).
– We would then ask you to donate a part of your artist fee from a particular event (to take part in this effort we suggest a minimum donation of 10% of your average fee).

If you are a promoter or venue/club/lounge…
– We would like to ask you to allow a team of volunteers to spread fund collection buckets around your venue/party.
– Clearly display the Red Dot around your venue to show that you support this effort.
-Suggest to your artists and their agents prior to the event participating and donating to the cause (minimum of 10% as previously suggested).
– All promotional material related to the event should bear the red dot for this cause to spread awareness about this project and maximise exposure to your audience which is key to making the project more successful.

If you are a label/agency/clubber
– There are many ways of getting involved such as making a direct donation as a business or as a civilian; influence your friends and family to do the same and get involved by helping spread the word via all communication means available to you.

Music is life and love is the answer. Let’s make this happen!!
