PJam - Flipside ArtworkOne of grime’s breakthrough acts of 2013, PJam, continues in his rich vein of form after recent outings on Night Slugs White Label series and Terror Danjah‘s Hardrive imprint have given him a platform to show just why he has been regarded as one of genres most promising acts by his peers. He now focuses his attentions on his burgeoning BeatCamp imprint for the label’s second release and the man comes correct once again with three essential cuts of pure, mind-bending grime.
Front runner ‘Flipside’ will please lovers of his highly sought after ‘Arizona Skyz’ effort from earlier on in the year with the track being propelled by an equally brutal breakbeat drum pattern and sub bass that is destined to earn a reload or two over the summer festival season. ‘Intel’ is a an unpredictable number that builds to a climax with spaced synths and exceptionally crisp drums and closer ‘Meditation’, the most restrained of all three jams, is a six minute bliss-inducing symphony that is as emotive as they come.

Terror Danjah Presents Hardwired (Preview)

Terror Danjah Presents HardwiredFollowing on from the release of his much-lauded sophomore album, Dark Crawler on Hyperdub last September, Grime lynchpin Terror Danjah returns to the fold with a brand new label compilation from his own Hardrive Records imprint, entitled Hardwired. Featuring label highlights from JokerChampionBok Bok and Royal-T alongside previously unreleased original material and remixes from Kode 9,Falty DL,  Zed BiasSwindleD.O.K and PJam amongst others – Hardwired is an audio scrapbook of some of Terror Danjah’s favourite producers and peers all on one record.
Those familiar with the labels output thus far will be glad to see the inclusion Joker & Terror Danjah’s Gully Goon Estate (a collaborative take on the formers’ 2008 hit Gully Brook Lane), Champion’s ubiquitous UK Funky roller Lose Control and Bok Bok’s 80’s Electro meets Grime remix of Mz Bratt’s Selecta on the compilation.
One of the standout new tracks on Hardwired comes from resurgent Grime producer PJam, whose much sought after Arizona Skyz VIP progresses from Grime into Jungle territory in an epic 8-minute journey – the juxtaposition of rough drum breaks with melancholic harped synths shows just why he’s been talked up by the likes of Night Slugs and Butterz as one of the Grime scenes ones-to-watch for 2013.
Weighing in with fresh productions for the album are fellow Butterz brethren Swindle on the P-Funk infused Funktion, frequent Terror Danjah collaborator D.O.K with his ode to UK Garage Cardio and a dream collaboration between Zed Bias and Terror Danjah with a meeting of the musical minds on downtempo affair Iceberg History.
Hyperdub boss Kode 9 also gets in the action too with the distorted and trippy Ice whilst NYC’s Falty DL chimes in with a colourful re-rub of one of Terror Danjah’s most notable instrumentals, Zumpi Huntah to round off an action packed array of tracks that more than make up for a quiet 2012 for the Hardrive label.

Taz & Akka ‘Synergy EP’ (Rwina Records)

Taz & Akka 'Synergy EP'Release date: 1st April 2013
Format: 12” / Digital
Rwina Records kick off 2013 with the ‘Synergy’ EP, a collaborative release from Taz & Akka. Glasgow’s Taz makes his fourth appearance on the label, while Akka (aka label head and mastermind Akkachar) finally steps over to the artist side. The pair have been collaborating for three years, with this first release compiling four tracks from the extensive amount of material the two have accumulated in that time.
‘Illusory’ combines euphoric synths, a flair for hooks and hands in the air escapism. ‘Mobius’ takes its inspiration from video games, grime, cartoons and hip hop, throwing everything into a blender and pouring the results all over the dancefloor. ‘Paul Is Dead’ switches up the tempo for a deeper take on the footwork sound, with a vocal snippet name checking one of the most famous “Paul”s in history and ‘Trapped In ’82’ closes proceedings by taking things back to the duo’s youth, unashamedly celebrating the musical excesses of the 80s.
Rwina has a strong back catalogue from artists such as Starkey, EPROM, Terror Danjah, Swindle and support from DJ Shadow, SBTRKT, Flying Lotus, Diplo, Mary Anne Hobbs, Skream, Oneman, Ben UFO, Machinedrum and many more.

PJam Feat. Big Narstie – Gas – BeatCamp(Stream)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on July 30, 2012 by dk

Artist: PJam Feat. Big Narstie
 Title: Gas
 Label: BeatCamp
 Release Date: 20.08.12
 Format: Digital

After last years re-release of grime anthem Anger Management (which is lauded as a definitive Grime classic partly due to the D Double Evocal) on Terror Danjah’s Hardrive label, PJam (pronounced pee-jam) has been on a steady ascent back to the forefront of the UK’s Grime scene. After a short stint away from music production, his newly-inked BeatCamp label has already seen him collaborate with the likes of Shystie and the imprint continues to act as a vessel to release his much sought-after productions.

The North London-based producer now presents a new single with long-time collaborator Big Narstie (the pair previously worked on various projects under the Dice Recordings stable) who provides a colourful lyrical approach to the haunted PJam production. The beat itself exemplifies what makes PJam stand out as a seasoned producer – low-end bass frequencies combined with ominous synths lines and crisp 808-drum work that allow Big Narstie to spew verses of unabashed street tales with the sinister production fuelling his fire.
Big Narstie has come on leaps and bounds over the last two years as an MC and character within the Grime scene with his humorous slogans ‘Pain’ and ‘Gas’. After his infamous 100 Bars of Pain freestyle on SB.TV, he has become somewhat of a cult hero with everyone from Ed Sheeran to Jamal Edwards (founder of SB.TVreciting his verses.

With more releases on BeatCamp and Hardrive scheduled for the coming months, ‘Gas’ is only a taster of what’s to come from PJam’s multi-faceted production arsenal and his return adds another element of excitement to the resurgence of Grime producers into the wider electronic music scene.
