Future Disco takes a well-deserved summer holiday and invites us poolside for its side series Poolside Sounds. Future Disco’s Poolside Sounds guides you through those long hot summer days, where the parties begin early and finish late. Taking you from lounging by the pool under the clear blue sky to sundown house, perfect for any laidback occasion, this is set to be the essential summer soundtrack which features amazing artists such as Maya Jane Coles, Lovebirds, The 2 Bears, The Rapture, Yacht, Crazy P and many more.

Since it’s first release four years ago Future Disco has achieved a cult following across the world of music and fashion. Awarded iTunes album of the year 2009, Future Disco have crafted a winning formula exploring the boundaries of contemporary house and disco music over five inspired mixes. While the traditional series maps the current trends and sounds of dancefloor’s worldwide, the sixth addition to the Future Disco family is designed as the ultimate summer listen.

Poolside Sounds carefully selects the hottest artists and remixes on the planet for the mix whilst making sure each one has that unique poolside feel. Big album artists such as the 2 Bears, The Rapture and Crazy P, sit alongside huge dance acts such as Maya Jane Coles, Lovebirds and Flight Facilities and combine to create a seamless mix of the finest house and disco. The aim of the album is to capture the atmosphere of a hot day by the pool and lead the listener through sunset and into the night. The tempos rise and the party gets started, and this is the perfect mix to start or end the night with.

Thus Poolside Sounds is the perfect soundtrack to the summer and brings another dimension and fan base to the Future Disco story, which continues to go from strength to strength with another summer residency on the sunset terrace at Space in Ibiza 2012 and its ongoing monthly radio show. Outside of its Ibiza residency Future Disco throws events at some of the world’s most lauded party spots including Ministry of Sound, xxx and Croatia’s Garden Festival, performing with such heavyweights as Greg Wilson, Crazy P and xxx.

YACHT Announce European and US Tour Dates
Release Brigitte Fontaine Cover To Promote Their Upcoming Tour

To promote their upcoming European tour dates, YACHT is enchanté to release a new song, a cover of iconic avant-garde French singer Brigitte Fontaine’s “Le Goudron.”

Fontaine is one of YACHT’s longtime favorite artists. Her singing style, her ability to blend humor and major gravitas, her seeming flippancy about life and death, and her willingness to take on serious issues: these are all huge inspirations for YACHT. So is her path of unswerving weirdness.

“Le Goudron” is a surrealist revolutionary song originally recorded in 1969 with The Art Ensemble of Chicago; YACHT has reinvented its naive-apocalyptic candor for a neon-soaked dance floor, their preferred autonomous zone.

While Claire L. Evans of YACHT was raised in France, this is the first song YACHT has ever recorded in French. Of the song, YACHT says, “we can only hope that our frantic, starry-eyed cribbing of Brigitte Fontaine makes us better people. In the meantime, we wanted to pay homage.”

The pair also made a new music video for the song, shot at The Smell in Los Angeles, California.
Read more about the track on YACHT’s blog HERE and check out “Le Goudron” and YACHT’s European and US tour dates below!

YACHT’s New Years Resolution: Bring Fun To America

Launch Of February And March U.S./ Canada Tour

You should view the world as a conspiracy run by a very closely-knit group of nearly omnipotent people, and you should think of those people as yourself and your friends.”
— Robert Anton Wilson

We’re an American band.
— Grand Funk Railroad

YACHT is an American band.

In 2012, more than ever, being a weird American matters.

In a month long tour which will reach across the United States and Canada, YACHT will strive to physically touch, spiritually question, and ecstatically catalyze our friends all over this great unbridled continent. In 2012, if we refuse to revoke it, we can keep a firm grasp on our lives, our experiences, and our pleasures–and we can strive to return, in some small way, to a radical North America. Or at least a more fun one.

YACHT Release Trippy Double-Video for “Utopia” and “Dystopia”

“Filled with quirky, trippy electronic sounds and attention-grabbing vocal performances,
[Shangri-La] ought to catapult the band to new heights”
Excellent.  3.5 out of 4 stars”– Los Angeles Times
“YACHT has been reborn yet again”– Billboard

Yesterday Portland’s YACHT released their critically-acclaimed new album, Shangri-La, on iTunes through DFA Records.  It will be available digitally everywhere next week on June 28th.  The duo also recently stopped by NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert (click HERE to watch) and Sirius’ XMU (premiering tonight at 9pm EST) with their live backing band.
YACHT are also unveiling their trippy, epic double-video for the first two tracks on the new album, “Utopia” and “Dystopia (Earth is on Fire).”  Band member Claire L. Evans explains the inspiration behind the video, which was directed by  Rene Daalder:
Rene Daalder has been a hero of ours for a very long time. As an artist, he’s had the kind of career we aspire to have: long, genre-oblivious, varied, dotted with experiments and rediscoveries, completely unguided by careerist motivations, brilliant and never limited. He’s made a punk-rock musical, a futurist web community, documentaries, strange and visually arresting science fiction films; he’s awriter, he’s worked with everyone from Russ Meyers to Rem Koolhaas.

Download YACHT-Dystopia

It still feels pointedly surreal, but we had the opportunity to work with Rene to make two music videos for Shangri-La: “Utopia” and “Dystopia (The Earth is on Fire).” They’re companion pieces — together they make up a short film straight from the mind of one of our favorite artists of all time.
Without further ado, Utopia and Dystopia (The Earth is on Fire), directed by Rene Daalder!

Some might recognize the spatial environment of Utopia as being a 3D visualization of the ideas of the radical architecture group Superstudio. Superstudio, founded in the late 1960s in Florence, Italy, essentially worked against their own discipline, arguing that architecture and design formalized unjust social divisions in concrete space and induced people to consume unnecessarily. Their vision of Utopia wasn’t an ideal city or a perfectly organized arcology with room for everyone — it was a world without buildings, a life without objects. They dreamed of nomadic communities living the warm and human aspects of life on a vast, impersonal grid.
Superstudio’s vision resonates with us because we see Utopia in the same way: it is not a practical reality, not something we can ever physically build with bricks and mortar. The future is a blank slate upon which anything can be imposed, but it’s also an oppressive absence of place, and as such any aspiration for future paradise is a failure, because all we have to count on is the present moment. Adolfo Natalini of Superstudio:
“…If design is merely an inducement to consume, then we must reject design; if architecture is merely the codifying of bourgeois model of ownership and society, then we must reject architecture; if architecture and town planning is merely the formalization of present unjust social divisions, then we must reject town planning and its cities…until all design activities are aimed towards meeting primary needs. Until then, design must disappear. We can live without architecture…”
Of course, we destroy the spatial grid in the process of our Utopia, attempting to impose a triangular superstructure over it. The end result? A world of shards and memories, and in the end, a revised version of what happens when we try to actually implement Utopia: you end up on island of your own design, cut off from the world.
