The world may be bracing itself for the cataclysmic changes of 2012, but Spaniards DJ Bea Tricks and beatboxer Beatmaster G have reunited with Wagon Repair to summon the Mothership now, under the moniker of “Class B Band”.

As a solo artist and as part of Dollz at Play with her former partner Xochilt, Bea Tricks has been spinning crowds into a tizzy with her high-gloss hard house at some of the world’s choicest venues, including Mr. C.’s Superfreq nights at Ibiza’s Underground and London’s The End. Meanwhile, Beatmaster G has been making the music with his mouth on the international MC circuit, touring on his own and playing live sets with club giants like Danny Tenaglia. Wagon Repair, always pushing the boundaries of dance music, previously released B & G’s EP Be at Risk to critical acclaim. Now, as Class B Band, the debut album Movie T drops on Wagon Repair late March 2011.

The Movie T, like the Bea At Risk EP, was recorded in the fairy tale mountains of Ibiza. Genre-bending prime time floor fillers, free-form instrumentals and grimey interludes pack a little boom bap on this exciting release. The combination of Bea’s love for rockabilly, new wave and punk; Beatmaster G’s love for all things B-Boy; their shared love of Hip Hop, discoand even the supernaturalmade its way into Be at Risk, making it an instant perennial in discerning crates everywhere. Movie T fits snuggly alongside this first effort.

In the spirit of New York’s Abe Duque, Berlin’s Modeselektor and Chicago’s Cajmere, there is a touch of the savant prankster to Class B Band’s free-wheeling, crunky beats. Their goofball touch is evident in the cheeky titles of acid-jack tracks like “Cats Nightmare” and “Electric Elf.” The mix of humour warped bass lines, punchy-askew beats and Beatmaster G’s special vocal effects, invoke a marathon night at a nightclub from beyond. Shades of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” click and pulse through “Morgan X” as the vocals stutter and mutter, “there’s a killer out there, so be please be aware”. On “Drain Age” slurred vocals wail, “I’m gonna need a drink tonight…” at a dizzy pitch over a cavernous vibe. The percolating, circus-like “Panfletto” is a response of sorts to Cajmere’s “Answering Machine” down to the sprinkling of ringing phones. The break-of-dawn groove in “Sillycatto” builds from sparse ambience to tribal house throwing the beat back to the nights when dream drums ruled the Sound Factory. “Horrendous Master Plan” is a sinister slice of acid-washed electrofunk would sound just as fresh bumping out of a West Coast low-rider as a disco cabana in Ibiza. The Movie T ends on a sublime, no-wave note, via “Don Simon & the Class B Band” a grungy hipswaying neck-shaker.

In Bea and Beatmaster G’s own words, “We believe there’s something in The Movie T for all kinds of listeners … all you need is a pair of open ears and a bit of sense of humour.  We hope to keep you guys moving and that you enjoy listening to it as much as we did creating
