MAO-1-webFrom one EP and a handful of remixes and collaborations, MAO have garnered support from the likes of Vice, iD, Dummy, Earmilk, Oneman, Untold, Pangea and beyond for their distinct take on forward-thinking soulful, electronic music.

For an anonymous duo from Brighton, MAO have so far attracted an impressive and growing band of collaborators including 14th, Lulu James, Mumdance, Marin, Dems and Seasfire – a disparate, but like-minded bunch who share their genre-defying passion.

It’s this ability to make ‘MAO-music’, rather than provide a generic A&R-led formula, that’s led to remix requests for Mad Decent’s Zebra Katz, Maribou State, Alex Barck and The Bloody Beetroots featuring Theophilus London.

Leftfield, but with an eye on the main-stage, MAO’s wide-screen sound is a compelling mixture of sub bass, textured soul, lush strings, and futuristic synths – as neo-modernist as the artwork they curate for their releases. The bass-heavy bump of ‘Black Narcissus’ is a prime example of their production prowess, the track will accompany their new single, ‘Ways Of Seeing’ feat 14th, released on 2 June on Uschii Music.

Paul Woolford’s classic “Erotic Discourse” by now needs little introduction. The genre-defining cut remains evergreen eight years after initial release and has inspired contemporary reimaginings here by two of UK techno’s brightest sparks: Dense & Pika and Kowton.

Both offer wildly different, equally opulent, takes on the original’s distinctive pulsar riff: Kowton twists, turns, swivels and bends it into a beatless DJ-tool-of-the-year contender, while Dense & Pika lace it with their inimitable largeness – already a club hit from Miami to Milton Keynes. Big remixes for a big record.

Tracklist:
1. Paul Woolford – Erotic Discourse (Dense & Pika Remix)
2. Paul Woolford – Erotic Discourse (Kowton Remix)

Digital Release Date: 28th April 2014

Cloud Seeding “Mirage” (feat. Alexa Wilding)(Stream)

Cloud Seeding MirageCloud Seeding continues its collaborative project with their sixth single, “Mirage,” featuring Alexa Wilding. Serra quickly gained an admiration for Alexa’s dark and visual music when he stumbled across videos for her songs “Black Diamond Day” and “Knife.” He contacted the singer and the two became fast friends over snacks in the West Village. “I was immediately drawn to Kevin’s music,” Wilding says, “the skeletal instrumentals he sent me reminded me of Hal Hartley’s soundtracks, only grittier. They had a dark and cinematic nostalgia to them that got me writing right away.” Fun fact, they have both worked with members of Television (Serra has taken guitar lessons from Richard Lloyd and Fred Smith mixed both of Wilding’s records).
Wilding was ready to get to work, the only caveat was she was heavily pregnant with twin boys. After a long wait which saw the birth of her twins, “Mirage” was finally completed in April 2014, mixed and mastered by Wilding’s longtime engineer, Murray Trider at Ground Control Studios in South Williamburg. Wilding’s bandmate, Jared Barron, added percussion to the song. The cover is designed by Ian Patrick Sullivan. “‘Mirage’ is very special to me,” Wilding shares, “I was unclear what being a mother would mean for my music, and this song, a road song of sorts, carried me through to the other side, and pushed me into some new sonic territory.”

No Artificial Colours ft. Alex Mills – Reach For Me(Stream)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on April 29, 2014 by J.D.

No Artificial Colours ft. Alex Mills - Reach For MeAs strong advocates of burgeoning homegrown talent, the inimitable PMR Records crew celebrated for bringing us Disclosure, Julio Bashmore & Cyril Hahn reveal London duo No Artificial Colours’ forthcoming release ‘Reach For Me’.
The track carries a sultry vocal line from ALEX MILLS.

Born and raised in South East London, Ryan Ellis and Lewis Wright’s adventure together as No Artificial Colours got off to the most auspicious of kick-starts after house legend Kerri Chandler’s Madtech imprint signed their ‘Crying Wolf’ EP last year; this was quickly followed by a remix of Cyril Hahn’s ‘Perfect Form’.

Their distinctive take house, UK bass and garage shines through in their debut release for PMR.
