Big Dada new artist Kate Tempest will release her album “Everybody Down” May 19th. Kate is best known as a poet, perhaps a performance poet or a spoken word artist. She also has a novel coming out next year with Bloomsbury. But ask Kate what she is and she’s more likely to say she’s a rapper. That’s her true and first love. More of Skinnyman than Seamus Heaney, more of Deal Real’s legendary Friday night rap battles than a book signing and reading at Foyles. “Everybody Down” has twelve ‘chapters’ telling one long, inspired story, a unique, one-off project and comes produced in its entirety by Dan Carey (Bat For Lashes, M.I.A + Hot Chip). The result is a revelation.

FutureWorld, the debut album from acclaimed Washington, DC DJ/producer,Thomas Blondet, is out now on Rhythm & Culture Music.
FutureWorld is genre bending, multicultural, and forward thinking aural journey that defines the Rhythm & Culture sound. Furthermore, Blondet’s project highlights his production sensibilities and widespread vision garnered by the multitude of influences living in the nation’s capital. His impeccable ability to mesh melody with infectious rhythms makes this a dance release as well as an insurmountable task in itself.
FutureWorld blends together Jamaican toasters with Indian musical traditions, fusing harmoniously within a landscape of swirling synthesizer lines over a terrain of modern dance rhythms (Chan Ve). Gentle Spanish vocals float alongside cinematic Middle-Eastern melodies (Un Amor) evoking images of streaming water flowing from a fountain in an ornate Andalusian palace.
Blondet, playing the roles of artist, producer, and curator achieves this hybrid by carefully selecting a host of vocal collaborators including reggae legend Monsoon, Carol C (of SiSe), Tina M, and French vocalist Leyla Chatti. Blondet’s creative collaborators also include Kiran Gandhi (of M.I.A.) who played percussion on Curry Flava and Croatian musician, Fillip Novosel, with whom he teams up on Savo Vodo, resulting in powerful Baltic vocals and virtuosic musicianship. Combined with Blondet’s DJ-friendly beats, the result is a statement of how small the world has truly become.
Comprised of 13 compositions, FutureWorld carries the dialogue of a modern global community as it creates the future of a world together.
1. Chan Ve
2. Un Amor
3. Check One
4. Dil Da Jani
5. Beyond the Balkans
6. Tu Va Partir
7. Curry Flava
8. Savo Vodo
9. In This World
10. Dil Da Jani Reprise
11. Supreme Dub
12. Son of Fakir
13. In This World Dub
REPTILE YOUTH release another exciting teaser from their upcoming album ‘Rivers That Run For A See That Is Gone’; ‘We’re All In Here’ is fantastic slice of upbeat synth infused pop with a slight Stone Roses’ swagger thrown in for good measure. The track is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD for the next 48 hours so get in quick – the album is out March 10th.
Hybrid Theory (Four40 Records) reworks the once tense gritty bass anthem with smooth musicality and slick garage grooves over the top of crisp four to the floor drum patterns and percussion. Jamie George’s pitched down vocal throughout creates a dark soulful presence, and with the use of cool melodic synths and stabs, the track is transformed into an uplifting big room banger while still maintaining its original underground essence.
Hybrid Theorys remix, (which was originally made only as a one off for Jamie and Hannah Wants) was first previewed as part of Jamie Georges “Ones2Watch” mix for Urban Nerds, but with the great feedback received on the track, Jamie and Hybrid Theory only saw it fit to give it away as an exclusive free download to you.
Audioglider a.k.a. Roberto Sodano has developed a strong reputation among the downtempo cognoscenti over the past 5 years, with releases on labels as respected and varied as Global Underground, Morrison Recordings, Renaissance, Exceptional Records and the German netlabel group FOEM before finding a permanent home at Section Records, who released the beautiful “Summer Rainstorm EP” in May 2013. He has garnered support from all quarters of the downtempo community in that time, notably The Big Chill, Ben Mynott of Fluidnation Radio and influential tastemaker blog and label, astrangelyisolatedplace, and the broad appeal of his musical style has attracted regular attention of such legends of the house scene as Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Glenn Morrison.
Developed with thought and care over a number of years, “Accidental Beauty” is a masterpiece of cross-genre downtempo that touches on many styles, each track evoking an individual response yet woven together into a lush journey that sounds balanced and cohesive as a whole. Drawing influences from the gamut of downtempo styles going right back to the 1980s, here you’ll find echoes of Cocteau Twins, 4AD, Boards of Canada, Nightmares On Wax and Ulrich Schnauss but bestowed with an intelligent contemporary edge through Roberto’s refined production techniques. From the cinematic opening with the ironically-named “End Titles”, through the subtle and intricate 21st century funk of Fluid Motion (with Florida based artist, D-Step) and My Tru Blood, via heavenly interludes like Dynamic Uno and Just Sound, before ending up in pure euphoric territory with Disappear, Polydirective (with Chicago’s Mucci) and the final track Cortexaphan, the listener is carried on a magic carpet ride through an ever-changing but always beautiful musical landscape.
Roberto’s musicianship and exquisite musical taste is evident throughout, blending guitars and electric bass with ethereal synths and high-definition beats with consummate skill that sounds effortless, never forced. The first essential album of 2013 and destined to join the ranks of the classics, you need “Accidental Beauty” in your collection.
