Beetnik

An electro blender set to 11 that is similar to surfing on an analog synthesiser through an electronic tidal wave with a party-fuelled jet pack strapped to your back.

Playing drums and guitar at an early age meant that Beetnik’s, born Nicky Low, musical tastes were firmly in the rock spectrum, until a visit to Ibiza as a fresh-faced 17-year-old.

The island was a home away from home that allowed Nicky to sample a wide range of music, including house, electro, techno, hard dance and chill-out.

Being in Ibiza, for months at a time, gave the budding producer the chance to soak up the sounds from the world’s best DJs, in the world’s greatest clubs, and gave him an intrinsic knowledge of what works on a dancefloor.

An accomplished DJ himself, Nicky has been DJing in and around Glasgow for about 4 years and more recently, the twisted electro sounds of people like Boys Noize, SebastiAn, Soulwax, Tiga, Justice and Digitalism caught his imagination.

Leading him to create his so-called ”twisted underground electro sound” under the Beetnik moniker, that became popular on various forums, and ink a deal with New York City-based record label ModyWorks in early 2009.

His second release for the ModyWorks label, a 4-track EP titled Sound, is coming out next month. In the meantime here is the link to his Hoodlum single on BEATPORT.

NEW AUTOKRATZ SINGLE FEATURING PETER HOOK FOR 13th JUNE RELEASE

Joy Division and New Order man joins the London duo on their new single
taken from the band’s second album ‘Self Help for Beginners’

CAT: BL6
Release Date: Monday 13th June

BECOMING THE WRAITH

1. Becoming The Wraith (Featuring Peter Hook)
2. A-Train

REMIXES
3. Becoming The Wraith (Alex Goper Remix)
4. Becoming The Wraith (Savage Skulls Remix)
6. Becoming The Wraith (Attaque Remix)

With their long awaited second album also set to drop on 20th June, autoKratz new single Becoming the Wraith is a modern electronic indie anthem. With an epic chorus and emotive melodies underpinned by autoKratz signature driving synths, it’s a track that is perfectly suited to a collaboration with New Order’s Peter Hook.

Of the collaboration Hooky said “I was delighted to be asked by autoKratz and knowing their music I understand why. The song was great before I even touched it. I just put the icing on the cake so it was a real pleasure.”

On having Hooky in the studio, autoKratz returned the compliment; “It was really inspiring to work with Hooky on this track as someone whose legacy has had such a profound impact on us, and the music we make. As soon as he picks up the bass it sounds like no-one else, and he brings a unique melody to the track in a way no-one else could.”

Pioneering French producer Alex Gopher leads the pack of remixes, whilst there’s a big rework from the super hot Savage Skulls, coming off the back of releases on Switch’s Dubsided imprint, Diplo’s Mad Decent and recent collaborations with the likes of Crookers. The package is completed by Attaque, a very promising young British producer who is one of the first signings to autoKratz new label Bad Life. In the band’s typically schizophrenic style, the B-side is A-Train and it’s an insane club banger described by Etienne D’Crecy as ‘It’s a hit!’ and by Mixhell as “A-MAZING!”

The album Self Help for Beginners follows their outstanding 2009 Kitsuné debut Animal and the worldwide success of Always More and Stay The Same. This time round the band take you on an innovative journey through dark electronic pop, hands-in-the-air garage techno and some very carefully nurtured moments of beauty.

There are also further collaborations with more of their heroes including Primal Scream guitarist Andrew Innes and Primal Scream & Kasabian producer Jagz Kooner.

The first glimpse of the new record came in January through the radio 1 supported ‘Opposite of Love’. Jaymo & Andy George described it as “bringing together all the elements of Autokratz we love, effortless vocal & the soul shaking electro they’re renowned for.” With the rest of the LP ram packed with high energy electronic rock and roll, 2011 will without doubt be the band’s most exciting year yet.

Made of Glue – PREVIEW by autokratz
Their never ending world tour continues to take them to all the corners of the globe, with highlights having so far included Pukkelpop, Lowlands, Solidays, Parklife Australia, Dour, Glastonbury and Koko in London.

Anyone who has borne witness to one of their legendary live shows, or got a record, or even read an interview will surely understand that the bands work ethic is solely driven by their unwaring devotion to music. There is a propulsive energy about this band that makes them special.

Autokratz – Kick(free download)

The long awaited return of autoKratz comes with colossal new track KICK, produced by Primal Scream & Kasabian studio luminary JAGZ KOONER, and features Primal Scream guitarist ANDREW INNES.
This EP will be available for free download on autokratz.com from 28th April.

autoKratz will follow the success of 2009’s debut ‘Animal’ with Kick, a brand new EP set for release on Thursday 28th April. Jagz Kooner got behind the controls on the A-Side and has helped the band to create a dark and pounding electronic anthem. The track guests the XTRMTR-era guitar eruption of Primal Scream’s Andrew Innes, coupled with the Kitsune-signed outfit’s typical arsenal of battering electronics.

The EP shows an exciting development of the autoKratz sound, indicative of why the band’s second album due later this year is so brimming with promise.

The B-Side sees the official release of the ruthless Skin Machine, a track which swept across the blogosphere like wildfire back in February. Furthermore, there’s a devastating remix from Japanese Popstars who deliver an enormous main-room take on things, once again fulfilling the hype bestowed upon them and comes after they recently scored Pete Tong’s ‘Essential New Tune.’

On release, all tracks will be offered for free from the band’s official website to thank the fans for their support, and will certainly give electronic music some serious food for thought as the band take to the road once more.
autoKratz will celebrate the release of Kick with a gig at KOKO in London on Saturday 1st May as part of The Camden Crawl.
In the last 3 years autoKratz have developed a reputation for being one of the finest live acts in electronic music. They have recently taken their exhilarating show yet further, starting 2010 with a brand new set up. Now joined by drummer Robin Rigoulet, the 3 piece will take to the road from the Spring for club shows and festivals across the globe.

Last year saw band complete a world tour of over 200 shows, the highlights of which included scoring one of the top 10 biggest selling electronic albums in Japan, where they toured with THE PRODIGY. As part of this mammoth tour they have also played rapturous festival sets at Pukkelpop, Lowlands, Solidays, Parklife Australia, Dour and second headline to Underworld on Sunday at GLADE FESTIVAL.
