Kiesza -“Sound Of A Woman” out November 17th

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , on September 16, 2014 by J.D.

Sound of a woman KIESZAToday Canadian singer and multi- instrumentalist, Kiesza announces the release of her debut album, Sound Of A Woman on Lokal Legend/Virgin EMI out November 17th, proceeded by 3rdsingle No Enemiesz out November 10th.

Sound Of A Woman takes you on a journey through life, love, music and time. Inspired by New York dance clubs of the ‘90s as well as current UK club culture, Sound Of A Woman is an ode to love, a missive to heartbreak as well as a dedication to the dance floor. As a multi-faceted musician, Kiesza experiments with sonic structure and genre patterns; Hip Hop, R&B, UKG and Breakbeat all permeate the record, while some of its key moments come in the form of spine-tingling ballads, the perfect backdrop to underline Kiesza’s incredible vocal. “I think people will be surprised to hear some of the songs on this album. Because of the success of my first two singles, I’m seen perhaps as a House or Dance artist but I’ve been in to grunge, rock, folk groups in the past,” she laughs. “All of those experiences and influences have led me to create this album.”

Produced by Kiesza and long-term collaborator Rami Samir Afuni, the album was recorded in Afuni’s studio in Manhattan, the simplicity of the studio structure evident in the record’s cohesion and intimacy. This is Keisza’s story, sung, written, composed and created by Kiesza.

Sound Of A Woman is as adventurous and unexpected as the twists and turns that led the 25 year-old to where she is today. The Berkley College of Music graduate, capoeira student and classically trained ballerina is also a Queen of the high seas. As a teenager, Kiesza travelled the world with the Navy and trained as a sniper for the Army, before becoming one of today’s most sought-after songwriters, having written for Rihanna and Icona Pop, as well as collaborating with Skrillex and Diplo. A committed artist whose extraordinary ambition is matched only by her unusual clarity of vision and overwhelming talent, this former tall-ship sailor has spent years plotting a course to the epicenter of pop.

Earlier this year, Kiesza released her platinum-selling debut single, Hideaway. The UK No.1 quickly became one of the biggest selling singles of 2014 accumulating over 100million hits on YouTube as well as becoming a smash across the pond and beyond scoring 30 iTunes No.1s worldwide. Second single Giant in My Heart followed suit, scoring a No.5 and cementing Kiesza’s status as one of the most exciting debut artists of the year.

Following sold out shows at and numerous prolific festival appearances including Glastonbury, Wireless and T in the Park, Kiesza announces the following European and UK shows in November.

Watch Tinie Tempah In The New Video For ‘Tsunami (Jump)’

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 24, 2014 by J.D.

Tsunami 042013 has seen 3 No.1 singles for Ministry of Sound, with hits coming from Bingo Players, Duke Dumont and Storm Queen. With 2014 in its sights, the world’s most successful dance label is gearing up for its next crossover hit with DVBBS & Borgeous’s ‘Tsunami (Jump)’, with a new vocal from Brit superstar, Tinie Tempah, following his previous featured hits with Swedish House Mafia and Calvin Harris.

The epic performance video was directed by Fred Rowson, who commented:
From the moment I heard this track with Tinie’s vocal, I knew that the video would have to be visceral, distinctive, and have real swagger. I wanted it to be iconic, with an industrial, almost gothic aesthetic that we’ve created through the colour scheme and the physical installation that we built. The choreography is central to the way the video develops, and I took Rick Guest’s Royal Ballet photography as a reference point for how we’d portray this. We’ve edited the performances so they build in intensity to really capture the tone of the music“.

The instrumental of ‘Tsunami (Jump)’ has already hit No.1 across Europe and on Beatport, clocked up 60 million collective YouTube views, over800,000 Soundcloud plays, and received repeat UK radio support from Radio 1’s Zane Lowe (who has just premiered the vocal version on Radio 1), Pete Tong, Diplo, Danny Howard, Greg James, Diplo and Annie Nightingale, plus spins from Mistajam at 1Xtra. To date, the track has spent 14 weeks in the Shazam Top 200 chart, peaking at No.13 in the Top 20 pre release chart.

DVBBS are Canadian brothers, Alex and Chris. The duo’s early singles ‘Initio’ and ‘DRVGS’, have taken the global EDM community by storm, and with shows alongside Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Rusko, Eric Prydz, Dada Life, Borgore and Steve Aoki, they’re rapidly becoming one of North America’s hottest live DJ tickets.

LA’s Borgeous is another producer riding the crest of EDM’s next wave. His original productions ‘From Cali WIth Love’, ‘GANGSTEROUS’, ‘Rags To Riches’ and ‘Aggro’, alongside remixes of Rihanna’s ‘Pour It Up’ (with The Cataracs) and his reworking of Ciara’s ‘Goodies’, have brought him much acclaim in 2013.

The inimitable Tinie Tempah has just dropped his second album, ‘Demonstration’, featuring collaborations with Diplo, Pharrell, Zane Lowe, Paloma Faith, Labrinth, Naughty Boy, Dizzee Rascal, 2 Chainz, Emeli Sandé, Ellie Goulding and the Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands.

Following the success of Showtek’s ‘Booyah’ and Martin Garrix’ recent No.1, ‘Animals’, ‘Tsunami (Jump)’ is the next harder-edged EDM anthem to cut through in an ever-shifting dance music landscape.

Taz & Akka ‘Synergy EP’ (Rwina Records)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 7, 2013 by J.D.

Taz & Akka 'Synergy EP'Release date: 1st April 2013
Format: 12” / Digital
Rwina Records kick off 2013 with the ‘Synergy’ EP, a collaborative release from Taz & Akka. Glasgow’s Taz makes his fourth appearance on the label, while Akka (aka label head and mastermind Akkachar) finally steps over to the artist side. The pair have been collaborating for three years, with this first release compiling four tracks from the extensive amount of material the two have accumulated in that time.
‘Illusory’ combines euphoric synths, a flair for hooks and hands in the air escapism. ‘Mobius’ takes its inspiration from video games, grime, cartoons and hip hop, throwing everything into a blender and pouring the results all over the dancefloor. ‘Paul Is Dead’ switches up the tempo for a deeper take on the footwork sound, with a vocal snippet name checking one of the most famous “Paul”s in history and ‘Trapped In ’82’ closes proceedings by taking things back to the duo’s youth, unashamedly celebrating the musical excesses of the 80s.
Rwina has a strong back catalogue from artists such as Starkey, EPROM, Terror Danjah, Swindle and support from DJ Shadow, SBTRKT, Flying Lotus, Diplo, Mary Anne Hobbs, Skream, Oneman, Ben UFO, Machinedrum and many more.
Tracklisting:
1. Illusory
2. Mobius
3. Paul Is Dead
4. Trapped In ’82
